Our neighborhood pool pump motors both died at the same time?

So our neighborhood has an infinity pool so we have a pump for both the pool and for the overflow basin. As our pool company was opening up the pool for the season they informed us that both pump motors had died and needed replacement. These pumps/motors are just over 5 years old and only used in the summer. They are housed in a temperature controlled pool building and are run from May through September. Our HOA is treating this as an "oh well things break" situation but I am trying to search for info because I can't wrap my head around two identical age pump motors dying at the exact same time after only 5 seasons. Just curious if what others thought of this situation?

The timing of it all is odd. At this point you're only going off the word of the pool company who came out. Perhaps you need a second opinion? Why are they not working? Is it as simple as some start capacitors? Are both motors actually receiving the appropriate voltage? What type of troubleshooting was actually done? Or are they taking the easy road and just saying "bad-replace" in an effort to get payment. $$$$

Or, they pulled two working pumps and replaced with two broken ones. Any documentation such as serial numbers or model numbers of the original pumps to compare to what's there now?

Well they came out to open up the pool for the season and informed us that both pumps were dead and that this can happen with pumps that only run part of the year? Then they replaced one pump so far (runs the pool) and are waiting for the second replacement (which runs the spill over).

We only got the opinion of our vendor and all we have been told is "bad-replace". This vendor also told the HOA that they've had several communities with bad pumps this spring. I'm thinking they're doing something wrong when opening up the pools and killing the pumps. One of our resident volunteers actually found one of the output lines in the pool still plugged while it was running.

Oh boy. :hammer: That would be a good time for surveillance cameras to catch the poor maintenance in action and hold them accountable.
