New Pool owner and sick of pool shop advise!

interesting - I recently started to do the 10ml sample - but I was still putting in 2 scoops of powder...so I can cut that part back by 1?
 
Yup. As long as it goes good and pink, you're golden. If not you need a skootch more powder, or FC added *pronto* (situation depending)

Thank you, wasn’t sure how precise we had to be. Full kit arrived yesterday, but I’m out of town so i plan to test Wednesday.

I've done a couple tests since receiving the kit.
  1. Early Morning May 23
    1. FC - .5
    2. CC - .5
    3. PH - 7.8
    4. TA - 130
    5. CH - 200
    6. CYA - 60
    7. SALT - 3600
  2. Added 108 oz. of 31.45 Acid
  3. Dropped PH to 7.0
  4. Noon May 23
    1. PH - 7.0
    2. TA - 110
  5. Late Night May 23
    1. FC - 1.0
    2. PH - 7.2
    3. TA - 100
  6. Added 1 G 10% Liquid Chlorine
  7. Morning May 24
    1. FC - 4.5
    2. CC - 1.0
    3. PH - 7.2
    4. TA - 140
Trying to bring the TA down, but seems like I can't get it below 100 consistently. I think this is moot though because my FC still keeps plummeting even with my SWG running at 99%. SLAM plan is to start June 1.

TA will come down as you add acid when pH gets to 8. No need to force pH down to 7. You can, but not necessary. Drop pH to 7.6 when it gets to 8. When TA gets to 60-80, don't drop pH below 7.8...it will likely stabilize between 7.8 and 8. That is ok, any pH in the 7s is just fine.

Massive loss on the OCLT!!!

I also found about 20 baby frogs made their way into the pool overnight and met their demise in the skimmer.

Pool is so clear though… so not sure why im burning through FC.

Get in that pool, take off the drain covers and scrub in there.
Scrub behind lights
Scrub skimmers
Check weir doors for Algae
 
Scrubbed the ladder around drains, around lights, walls, and skimmer area every couple days. I took the bubblers off and scrubbed all that clean earlier.

How do you take the drains off? Im assuming just screw driver and hold my breath?

With laminars should i just run the water through the system?


What kind of hand scrubber would you use on vinyl?

Passed SLAM!! I’m probably going to keep it at SLAM for a couple more nights to be positive because i don’t wanna go through this again!

Once i finish a couple days of passing I pman to start adding boric acid. My ph swings before were terrible and really like that the boric acid will help with stability as well as rhe other benefits.

With the FC holding, it's real easy to extend the SLAM. You saw how much fun starting one was. 😁

I would personally make the call to extend it if it were mine. Bravo there.

So was your testing and your poolcare. Just saying.

Here in TFP land we will get your TA down near 60 and the Ph won't likely matter again with vinyl. I dosed once last year and don't expect to at all this year.

Yes borates can help some folks, but you don't need them once everything is inline with trouble free poolcare. Jacking your TA so that the PH constantly rises is the pool store way. You're off that turnip truck.

Good advise thank you!

So with the TFP way the Ph should stablize and the benefits for borate minimized. I will say the silky water part kf it caught me a lot too, lol.

Correct. Maybe you notice a little different feel. Maybe not. Maybe some salt would do the same thing.

I sparkle plenty with no borates. Don't know how I could see any more.
