Help! I am trying to clean these filter cartridges and clean out the pump basket but the water flow will not stop. I’ve cut the power and closed the valves but when I took the pump basket cover off water just started pouring out. What am I doing wrong?!

Take pictures of all the equipment and show all valves, post them.

Is your equipment pad above or below pool water level?

Here is the equipment.

I’m worried that if I open the filter that the same thing will happen and I won’t be able to stop it.

I would open the valves, they are all turned off. So the water from the filter has no where to go.

With the valves off, when you remove the pump lid, all the water that is above this pipe in the filter is coming out your pump.

Open the valves, let the filter drain, then open the filter.

Matt,

Did you drain the filter first??

When you open the pump lid the filter will just drain all its water out of the open pump.. That is why it is best to have a valve between the filter and the pump, when you have a cartridge filter.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I thought I did but apparently not. Lotta good that physics degree did me. I just opened the valves and I could hear the water clearing. The pump basket is now empty. I don’t know why I thought to close all the valves.
