Hello all I am logging in now for the first time since last season. I want to say hello to all and thank you for all the help all of you have been to me in the past season. You have taught me a lot. So again Thank you. Now I am about to open my pool again but have a lot of work ahead of me. I have to remove the cover and clean it thoroughly and then let it dry and then attach all the necessary items to get the pool up and running. But I am getting ahead of myself a bit here. I hope you can guide me through this as easily as possible. My pool definitely needs about 12 inches or so of water to fill it up so I will be doing that today, into tomorrow. But what I need to know is depending on how the water looks - how many gallons of liquid chlorine bleach do you recommend I put in the pool to "so-called" shock the pool at the beginning of this season? I know I have to do the testing and the pool math calculations BUT this is my first season opening the pool without using the chlorine tablets since you guys have made me go on a diet from them since my CYA was so high last year. So all season I used ONLY liquid bleach and it was great. But I did not start that way at the beginning of the year. So can you recommend a general idea of what or how many gallons I should start with to open my pool before I do any calculations? Thank you guys so much again.

p.s. I forgot how to post so I started a few minutes ago by posting this same question to the admin(Leebo) sorry about that- so if anyone here can help me get started on the right foot I would appreciate that. And thank you all again for a great season of help last year.

hello and thank you-- but I am still a newbie at this and I am not sure what 3ppm means in actual gallonage. I have the Walmart brand of bleach that you guys recommended last year. So I will be using that but if you can zone in on the actual or as close as possible the actual amount would be so helpful. Do I add this bleach before filling the pool or AS I fill the pool? and do I do that BEFORE or AFTER cleaning the pool with a vacuum and brush? Also, can you remind me of the order I need to go in after removing the cover and connecting all the parts of the pump, etc? Do I need to vacuum first or brush first? And how about backwashing?-- As I mentioned I want to do this in the correct order. And should I fill the pool first and THEN do the cleaning or can I clean as I fill the pool? I want to do this right and as efficiently as possible. Thank you so much again

Monte !!!!!! I have been legit waiting for your return.

Welcome BACK !!!

It may be ugly under the cover. It's been unusually warm this year and it's gifted many people who opened late swamps.

Rest assured, we got you. No matter how bad it may be. :)

*fingers crossed its beautiful tho.

Hello, how the heck have you been.. I am a little nervous about looking under the cover but it has to be done. But after doing that I should start filling my pool again correct? And then do I need to turn the filter on first and then vacuum and brush while the filter is running? And should I add the bleach after filling or while doing it and how much without going to pool math right away. Again my pool is 15 x 24 Any ideas? And can you let me know if what I said above is correct? My brain went blank over the winter and I need a bit more guidance once the cover is off. Nice to chat with you again- :)

Happens to everyone with long off seasons, especially the first one after finding TFP.

Yup. Cover off, then fill.
And then do I need to turn the filter on first and then vacuum and brush while the filter is running?
Yup. Get the system running once the water is high enough and vacuum. Give it some time to settle and vac again. It often takes a couple tries to get it all at opening.
And should I add the bleach after filling or while doing it and how much without going to pool math right away
Refamiliarize yourself with pool math. Get 5ppm of chlorine in there immediately once its circulating. The CYA won't be trusty until it's mixed for a full day. Then that will set the normal operating FC level.

Luv ya---- just finished getting all the last leaves and water off the cover and will now remove it and start filling.I attached some pics of my clean water and leaf-free cover before removing it. But if you would look at my filter pump. I attached all that I can remember YET I see one hole left if you can see it that is NOT plugged? It is the hole next to where the white plug is that is used for backwashing. Not sure what belongs there if anything. I also found one extra rubber washer that I cannot see where that went either. I have looked everywhere and all the washers are in. Any ideas for me?IMG_E9538[1].JPGIMG_E9539[1].JPG

No idea. @PoolStored might know, he has a sand filter.

One of your connections is missing an O-ring.

Do you have a pump to get the cover water ? Once it's mostly gone you can make a sack out of the tarp to get the remaining water all in one spot with enough to pump more.

Is that the Aquabot Pool Rover Jr.? That was my first robot until I got my new one for Christmas! Great little starter robot for the money! Keeping mine as a backup. 🙂

that should be where you put the small glass part to see the water!
Yes it was thank u. But that extra washer??? I checked most connections and yet from the previous post i cannot see where this one belongs? I attached 2 pics showing the washers in the connection where they belong. But little thick one u see in the 3rd pic????IMG_9541.jpegIMG_9542.jpegimage.jpg

Also, refresh my memory. Did you close at full slam or half slam with algecide ?

Whichever way you went, we need to remember it because it really pulled a miracle with all the heat this spring.

I think full slam??? I will keep better records this year. But definitely NO algecide. How can I look back and see last year's posts-- I will be able to tell what I did at the end of year by looking at what I was told to do. LOL
