Good pump. Works well.So it looks like I can't get a new PB4 where I live (outlawed in CA) but my buddy works for a pool equipment supplier and can get me a good deal on a Pentair Hydroboost. Would that be an acceptable replacement for powering my Polaris 380 pool sweep? (I notice the Pentair is 1hp vs the 0.75hp of my old motor) If so, can anyone chime in on if that's that a good booster pump? Thanks again!!
Because of not completely understanding Calif. Title 20, many online stores won't ship any pump that is not a variable speed model to California. they are still legal here.So it looks like I can't get a new PB4 where I live (outlawed in CA) but my buddy works for a pool equipment supplier and can get me a good deal on a Pentair Hydroboost. Yeah, that was his understanding of his company's policy but after looking into it more, it turns out he can sell me the PB460 which I understand is a newer version of my 2000 PB4 (not sure if there are any functinal differences). Seems like the Hydrobooster has some nice advantages (quieter, more efficient, cheaper price) but I'm not sure if its worth the risk/hassel of it not enough juice for the pool sweep.Because of not completely understanding Calif. Oh, have you used or installed the Hydrobooster? I haven't been able to find much feedback about it online compared to the PB4.Good pump. Works well.
Well I ended up going with the Pentair. The design looks a lot more complex than the old single impeller design. Hopefully that doesn't affect reliability or serviceability. I did appreciate how easy is was to replace the seals on the PB4 and how much online guides/resources there were for it. Still, it was super noisy and the equipment pad is located outside our bedroom so the Pentair should be an improvement. The Hydroboost is a similar design to the Polaris PB4SQ, which is a multistage impeller design, which is supposed to be a lot quieter.

Where did you hear that a PB4-60 booster pump is”outlawed”in California?I don’t think that is accurate the company is based in Carlsbad,California.Polaris is owned by Fluidra(formerly Jandy). There are local pool companies that carry that pump in your area,I would replace the pump with the same pump personally but that is up to youSo it looks like I can't get a new PB4 where I live (outlawed in CA) but my buddy works for a pool equipment supplier and can get me a good deal on a Pentair Hydroboost. Replacement dedicated-purpose pool pump motors with a dedicated-purpose pool pump motor total horsepower greater than or equal to 0.5 hp manufactured on or after July 19, 2021, shall be variable-speed replacement dedicated-purpose pool pump motors.
Have installed several. They work well. Actually, any "name branded" booster will work with your Polaris.Oh, have you used or installed the Hydrobooster? I haven't been able to find much feedback about it online compared to the PB4.
Awesome, glad to hear it! It seems like a better pump in several meaningful ways but I was nervous to go with it for fear that it wouldn't be strong enough. I'm glad to hear from someone who has actual experience with it so thanks for sharing your impressions.Have installed several. They work well. It should have been included in the pump box it came in,all the booster pumps we have gotten over the years always have them included with itFlexible Hose Piping
The booster pump comes with a flexible hose and adapters which can be used in place of PVC piping.

Yeah, that is what I was expecting too but we opened the box, pulled everything out and found nothing but the pump and instructions. My friend who sold it to me is getting me a hose kit free of charge. It should have been included in the pump box it came in,all the booster pumps we have gotten over the years always have them included with it
Hose kit and adapters have been included in every one I've installed. Should have been there.Awesome, glad to hear it! I'll post again once I've gotten it installed. Had a bit of a delay due to it not coming with inlet/outlet adapters (I thought it did for some reason when I ordered it).
Yeah, it looks like there was space designed in the packaging above the pump where the hose and connectors could have fit. Maybe there was an oversight that the factory.Hose kit and adapters have been included in every one I've installed. Should have been there.
It's much more likely that someone opened the box and removed the hose kit.Maybe there was an oversight that the factory.
Our technicians used to do it all the time until I started loading their equipment and parts they needed the old rob Peter to finish the job!!Or when they lost or broke something and didn’t want to admit it!!It's much more likely that someone opened the box and removed the hose kit.
