Lost Water Pressure. At a loss.

Hi all, it’s been a long time since I’ve been here. I’m having an issue with our 7 year old pool that we can’t figure out. Our water flow was pressure has dropped considerably over the last few months. Our spillway barely spills and our suction side vacuum barely moves, even at 3450 RPMs. Spa jets barely bubble. I’d say we’ve lost well over 50% of our pressure, if not more.

None of the values have been touched and the cartridge filter has been cleaned. We’ve actually tested the system without the cartridge filters and it is not noticeably any different. As a last resort, I blew out the lines (skimmer, vac and main) with a drain bladder in both directions and no noticeable debris came out.

I did notice a few months back that my pentair VSP pump was acting up, turning on and off outside of the programmed schedule and revving up and down sporadically. After resetting it, I didn’t have any more issues.

Could I potentially have a bad pump? Or does this sound like something else? Maybe a serious clog that I didn’t get cleared with the drain bladder? Any other ideas what this could be and how to rectify it?

Crack open your pump and check for a clogged impeller.

This is what it was. Turns out my old pump basket had rotted and had a crack in it and this piled up over time. I’ve never checked the impeller before so thank you! IMG_6727.jpeg
