Iron stains gone but water still green

Hmmm good point. Could the chlorine be the differentiating factor though? Perhaps the rust on the rocks isn’t enough to stain the pavers, but oxydation with chlorine is? In any case, we decided to remove them all! Once the AA treatment completes, we will drain and replace as much water as possible and see what happens. I’ll post back here with any findings. Appreciate everyone’s help!
Before replacing the rocks maybe do a test - put some in a white bucket with pool water & see what happens.

Hi,

I have exactly the same issue and I from Quebec too, so I was wondering if you're treatment work?

Thank you

Bonjour JP 😊 I was reading your earlier post and you mentioned Citric Acid? If you have iron, you must use Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) which is different. Since removing those decorative rocks near our pool, we do still have some yellow staining on the walls but it is much lighter, and the water has not turned green again! We were waiting until this cooler season to redo the AA treatment, but really I don’t think we will know for sure if our problem is solved until next season when we get those heavy rains again. The AA treatment does work (we did it about 5-6 times this season) but it’s really just a temporary treatment until you actually remove the iron. And the only way to do that is to replace as much water in your pool as possible. Bonne chance!

Oh thanks a lot! Yes actually I used citric for my first process because I didn't know which stains that I had and I have a new fiberglass pool this year so i'm trying to learn how to maintain it!

And I was told to used the citric acid powder by the company that sells my fiberglass pool so this is why i tried.

But know I know that my problem is iron, i'm pretty sure it's because i did my concrete paver job around the pool (cutting paver etc...).

So for my next step, I will do the AA treatment and drain/refill the pool and add the sequestrant.

Did you add the sequestrant right after the AA treatment even if you drained the pool partially?

Thank you for your response!

You do the AA then immediately add sequestrant after the stains disappear as outlined in the article. Then you exchange/replace the water. This way the metals are in the water & go with it, not re deposited on to the surfaces.

Thanks a lot everybody for you're help!

Another question, when I made my first treatment with acid citric, I let my sand filter to filtrate mode and know I realized it was not a good idea. So for my next AA treatment, I was wondering if I can run my sand filter a little time (like 1 hour) for making sure that I can removed all the iron particles from it (probably some are trap in the sand filter)? Right after that, I will add the sequester and doing a backwash just to make sure that I can remove the most metallic particles. After that step, I will do the exchange/replace water method with the sand filter on Recirculate mode.

Is it a good idea? What do you think?

And for the sequester, I buy the jack's magic purple stuff for my salt pool and I will be using it only after my AA treatment and water exchange. But right after the AA treatment, which sequester should I can used? Because from now on, I have not much salt in the pool because I already drained it a lot. Should I use the jack's magic pink stuff when I did my exchange/replace water treatment and how much should I used (1 bottle)? Because right after that I will rebalance the water chemistry , add the salt that been drained and maintain the jack's magic purple stuff sequester.

Thank you again for taking the time to answers my questions!

Pink or purple Jack’s is fine. They are both compatible with each other- one may cost less. The purple stuff is for high tds water which you may or may not still have- the purple is fine to use either way. Use the initial application amount listed on the bottle for your pool volume.
No need to do the filter or backwash in between- just recirculate. If you filter too soon you may catch the aa & remove it from the pool before it can do it’s work.
Recirculate as instructed in the article then change to filter as instructed. I would wait 24 hours before exchanging water to ensure the sequestrant has had time to do its thing.

I’m curious to know where you got the Jacks Magic? Very difficult to get in Canada and the few place I found it were very expensive, like 60-80$ a bottle?

Hi,

I know it's pretty rare but my pool store from saint-constant have it! And they sell it 45$ the bottle, it's hippocampe pool store from Delson (south shore of montreal)!
