I know it has been stated many times on here that salt pools don't have any affect on pool components but I haven't seen this one so I wanted to double check. My pool has the 500 watt light fixtures in it which are metal. With these being submerged all the time will I encounter any problems switching to SWG?

No.

Thanks. I thought that would be the answer but I needed to ask.

Sort of related, my neighbor put in a liner pool with SWG 7 years ago. They have rust marks around the skimmer openings. I don't have any experience with liner pools and don't know what issues they generally have, so is this a matter of the wrong screws being used or can it be SWG related?

It's moisture related. Most likely the skimmer is leaking and the steel wall rust is bleeding through the front of the skimmer. It would happen with either pool. The same goes if they used poor quality screws and that's the only source of the rust.
