From a Basic Lawn to Private Resort - We Have A Pool! Controlling Pollen...

We are happy so far. Today the deck washing has commenced and furniture is steadily arriving. We are heading for pool school next week. Hard to believe we're already nearing the 30 days post-fill mark. I can't wait to get "Jane Jetson" in there on those floors to attack the plaster dust that's getting brushed down 😂. Our children go back-to-school tomorrow, so we are living in very busy times around here. I'll post more pictures when we get our furniture out on the deck. Hopefully, we can work on that this week or over the weekend. I finished sealing the pool equipment screens yesterday, so we will begin getting those installed. It shouldn't take a long time to do those, it's just having the time to do it. Other than that we are just swimming along 😂...

Pool School is complete and Jane Jetson can finally get to those floors. Our SWG is turned on and I had to switch from chlorine pool to swg in pool math. CYA is 40 and now that we have salt, ideal is 60. What product do we need to increase CYA, is it stabilizer, if so do you have a recommendation for a good one @Newdude or @HermanTX ? Also, is there a salt recommendation? We are now at 2600ppm since SWG was turned on Tuesday.

We added stairs to our upper deck and extended it about 13ft. We have to wait 30 days to stain it but it looks really nice and offers a landing for our family with bad knees or that will require a break when going up and down the stairs.

We are working to get the no dig fence panels in the ground this weekend around the equipment and putting furniture together, water sealing it, and scotch guarding the fabrics. We went with teak and white with black and gray accents as a color scheme. Wanted neutrals so that we can add pops of color when we want a different look. We need to order some furniture covers next.

Full house pressure wash is scheduled for Tuesday, and will include the deck and bball court as the builder's guy left so much GA Clay behind. The last thing we are waiting on is for the builder to send retaining wall guy to get rid of the black plastic grid around the wall and to fix the blocks around an exposed light.

We are also planning for an underdecking system to be installed in the Spring of '24.

Still TFP Clear and trying to keep it that way😁:

I use Puritech CYA from Amazon and it works great.

BTW check your salt level as that seems low to me but your SWG manual should tell you what level is correct. Mine is like 3200 that's why 2600 seemed low.

Carpenter Bees are like  I hate bees, stupid wasps built a nest inside a weather proof outlet cover. Time for a nocturnal killing. They are my kryptonite, hate them with a passion!!

HD and Walmart flip flop whether the 4 lb bag or 5 lb bag is a better deal if you need it that day. If it's not a rush, I also like piritech from Amazon.

is clorox pool salt any good?
It's to be avoided when possible with previous iron issues. But then again there were some bad batches of Mortons recently and the others could be the same any day now.

Hopefully it won't be a big deal as a one time thing.

I read about past issues with Morton AFTER I had purchased 3 bags and already put 2 in my pool. No issues with the first 2 bags and hoping there are none with the last 1.

Anything nowadays always has the chance of being a problem. Just look at all the FDA drug issues, food issues. vehicle recalls, not sure there is any item that is 100% safe now. Not even 95% or 90%...

Agreed.

Any advice on setting pool automation to lower light bill and conserve energy? Current settings are below. In the summer our normal electric bill is between $130 - $250 depending on how hot it is, we keep ac settings between 74 and 78 degrees farenheight. With the pool the first month our bill was $426. Need to get this number down if we can 😊. Thanks for any tips and advice.

I would bring your pump speed down to 1800-1900 and see how your skimming action is. If I recall you have two skimmers and I have one and I run at 1900 from 8am to 6pm and my pool is clean as a whistle. If you have variable rate electric you could always run it at night as well to save money. Do you have an autocover for your pool? If not what do you heat your pool to temp wise? If no cover overnight you will lose heat and then you have to reheat the next day. Maybe down south you are not heating at this point yet

Thanks Wolfepack! We get full sun on our pool from 9am until the sun goes down, so it's usually nicely heated all day. We have 2 skimmers, one in shallow end and one in deep end. We don't have a cover. Overnight temps right now are in the mid 70s to 80s so losing heat isn't a concern for us right now. We do have a heat pump for the spa and it can heat the pool also, but haven't hopped in the spa with the heater on yet as hot as it has been here lately, the urge to sit in with the heat on is not there. I will try lowering it to the speeds you mentioned to see how it does. We have jandy vsp epump. Which reminds me that I need to put our equipment info in my sigi 🫣...
