Trouble with TF-100 FC test

I'm currently testing my Free Chlorine for the first time using the TF-100 test kit. I added the R-0870 powder which turned the water pink. I then started adding drops of R-0871 to the water. It first turned clear at 35 drops, I figured out the FC, but by the time I was done calculating the water turned pink again. So I started adding more drops of R-0871. Cleared at 43 drops, but then my baby started crying, by the time I got back it was pink again. I'm now at 60 drops! I don't know what's going on. Should I just start over?

Walk away after the first going clear. If it sits for a bit it may go back to pink and that one doesn't count. For any of the tests, get your end point and disregard anything else that happens when your phone dings and the vial changed when you get around to cleaning up.

Also, just wanted to make sure you're using 10ml and each drop is .5. Everyone starts with 25ml and .2, and there's just no reason for that kind of accuracy. They waste 2.5x the supplies and it doesn't change the price of beer.

A 2.X sucks at any CYA level whether it's 2.5 or 2.8, and a 9.X is great at most CYA levels.

I only did 10ml. I didn't pay attention to the measurement of the drops though 😳 I didn't realize I should do that. I was very careful when adding the drops and applied minimal if any pressure to the bottle.
I just retested and got 14.5 FC, I made sure to move more swiftly this time. I know that's high, but it's intended to be. I started SLAMing at the beginning of the week and was trying to get by with strips. That obviously wasn't working lol, so I just kept adding 5ppm of chlorine daily using poolmath until my test kit arrived.
The weird thing is my results show no CC, but I have visible algae in my pool. This is all very confusing, but I'm determined to figure it out.

CCs don't take long to burn off so you may or may not see them. Or youll see 2.5 now and 0 in an hour. They aren't a big deal by themselves one way or the other, they're just part of the intricate puzzle.

Stay the course now that you're armed with the right tools. You got this. :)
