Does CYA "gather" on the surface of plaster pools?

Seeking to further understand CYA management within plaster pools.
.
Has anyone drained their plaster pool 100% only to find it still has a significant amount of CYA? How much CYA remained?
.
Has anyone been told to acid wash the pool as it drains in order to truly remove all CYA?
.
Has anyone with a plaster pool removed all or almost all CYA by simply draining the pool's water?
.
Thank you!

Hi newcomer :). welcome!

Is the filter holding water still, along with all the lines even while draining... a bit of cya there, I imagine?
Acid washing will shorten the lifespan of the plaster... don't do it just for any possible small amount of CYA. Not worth it.
How high is the current CYA....and how low are you seeking to make it?

I believe that is an old wives tale. The CYA is in the water not on the walls and the % CYA reduction will be equal to the % of water you replaced.

My guess is that there are people who drain like a foot, then claim they drained half their pool and wonder way their CYA didn't drop that much.

This is here is what I needed to re-instill my confidence in CYA management via simply draining water.

Some pools are an unknown above 110ppm; however, I'll be reducing that far more this month given management and my boss' preferred CYA range of 30-50.
.
Interestingly enough, I service a route of 10 community pools at 8 apartment complexes, I don't want to say where. I'm not the only CPO, however, I am relied upon for a high standard of water chemistry management.
.
I do have another CYA question that I'm interested in gathering data on:
.
How many ppms of CYA does one 3" chlorine tab add to 10,000 gallons of water? I might could find this by googling.
.
Thank you for the warm welcome!!

Thank you guys, y'all are The best. I'm having a really great first impression of this forum. Which means, I'll need to try to not spend too much time no here as there's plenty of other work to be done.
Using this math, I can then truly understand how much CYA is being added per week relative to how much I'm dispelling when draining exactly 1" of water within these apartment pools. I could really dial my CYA management down using math, which greatly excites me.
