I'm trying to find out if this is pollen or yellow algae. We have it every year and assumed it was pollen but our pool is still cloudy so are now trying to verify. It always accumulates on the steps and bottom of the pool. Not sure if it's on the walls because its too cloudy to tell. We vacuum it up and or brush it often but it returns within a few hours. When we brush it clouds up the pool area. I'm currently SLAMing my pool. Here are some pics of it on the sun deck in the sun and pool ledge that is usually in shade.

Hard to tell. Either way, if it is algae, SLAM will take care of it. If it is pollen, skim the top and vacuum the pool...eventually the filter will get it.
If it is algae can I still vacuum through the filter or do I need to vacuum to waste

Either works...if filter, make sure you know your clean filter pressure. When pressure rises 25% you will need to clean or backwash the filter.
Have you done an OCLT?
Is there pollen in a consistent spread and coverage around the pool? Pollen will be even and consistent outside as well…eg it’s not patchy.

Yes we lost 3ppm last night. I believe it's pretty even spread on the floor of the pool but hard to tell bc it's cloudy. There is more on the step but that may be bc of the return nearby.
