Passed OCLT, but can't get cloudy water clear?

No pool water can bring that!
One day it will. Hang in there.

Wasn't it you who pointed out that we aren't given patience and instead are given the *opportunity* to be patient ? Yeah. Just like that. Make the best of your opportunity to be patient.
Touché…I’m working on it, just because I know what I’m supposed to do doesn’t mean I do it. Kind of like my daughters homework 😂 nobody’s perfect 🤷‍♂️

All tests this morning looked good. I could add some salt to bring up another 200-400 ppm, but don’t want to introduce more dirt/impurities since that’s part of the reason it’s cloudy now. Thoughts?

The salt really shouldn’t be too dirty. What salt do you have? Folks have had some issues recently with Morton’s professional & clorox pool salt but if it’s not one of those go for it.

The 800 lbs I already put in to get to 3200 ppm were “Clean and Pure.” My pool was pretty clear, like could see all the way to bottom of 8’6”. I wish I had a pic but don’t think I do. After adding salt it was pretty hazy and then starting the pump/filter for the first time ever really clouded it up.

It appears to be no need, and you're chasing an 'ideal level' that's no more ok than the ok level it already is. :)

Are you adding DE ? If you have the ability to babysit it, I'd only backwash a little when the time comes to spend more time in the sweet spot of fairly dirty filter (either DE or crud).

Got it, no more salt. Just don’t like having pool math tell me I’m out of range 😛.

I added 2.5 cups DE, no change in filter PSI. Did notice more white stuff on the bottom of pool and wasn’t sure if it was DE escaping the filter or whatever is causing my cloudiness. Should I adde more DE?

I would hold off for just a bit since there may be a chance some excess could be blowing back into the pool. Wait until after your next backwash to replenish DE.

What speed are you running your pump. At low speed, you will not see the increase in PSI.

When adding DE to your sand filter, run the pump at 3000 rpm or higher to determine the 1 psi increase in filter pressure.

What type of filter pressure gauge does your system have?
Consider getting a fluid dampened gauge that reads 0 to 30 psi.
It's easier to read small changes in pressure on a 0 to 30 gauge versus a 0 to 60 gauge.

1500 RPM. Duly noted, was informed of that after that fact. Any way to get that pump speed tidbit put into the "Add DE to a sand filter" TFP thread I followed 🤣

Got it, now I know!
What type of filter pressure gauge does your system have?
The one that came with the Pentair Triton II TR-100.

Good tip, thanks! Would I be constantly changing the gauge though depending upon whether I'm running low or high speed for the pump?

No - even at the highest speed (3450 rpm), you shouldn't see anywhere near 30 psi unless the filter was overly dirty.
Bottom mount and rear mount gauges are available thru TFTestkits and other sources.

Being you're in OH, you may wish to consider removing the gauge in the winter to better protect it.

Also, I know I'm supposed to be waiting to worry about the air in the system until the water's clear, but noticed something when the pump shuts off to change programs or something. A little bit of water squirts out of the union at the front of the strainer basket. I've attached a picture showing the water spot on the equipment pad. It doesn't leak when running. Only when the pump stops it squirts out some water. I noticed the union doesn't exactly look straight. Thoughts?
