Hey! New to me pool owner which came with our purchase last year. ~20k Gal, vinyl liner, oasis/lagoon shape pool, with a salt system that looked like it wasn't taken care of all that well. I followed the instructions here on the SLAM process along with a custom kit I put together from Taylor (based on the recommendations here) I was able to get the water crystal clean within a week. Got my CYA levels improving (started at 0 at 45 now, gradually adding and checking) and my TA levels decreasing (was at over 300ppm, now at 170)...
During the entire process, the pool pump motor managed to seize up (it looked like it was previously leaking and covered in evaporated salt water), so I went ahead and replaced the pump and filter (there was lots of sand in the pool, I changed it out with a cartridge filter as I am okay with rinsing off the filters manually), optimized the plumbing that was above ground (removed street elbows, added the ability to pump to waste and plumbed in a drain for the cartridge filter) and moved the flow sensor on the SWG to a proper position (12" of clear pipe before)... So far so good! just wish it was 2" plumbing instead of the 1 1/2" that I have now - looks like I'll have to live with that.
The important part --> I don't think I would have been able to do this without all the great info here at TFP and the PoolMath iOS app... thanks so much for building a great community here! I'm sure I'll have lots of questions in the future.
