How can I fix this potential leak at the overflow pipe at the tile line?

How can I fix this potential leak at the overflow pipe at the tile line?
I've noticed that after a heavy rain, the water recedes below this overflow pipe (see black plug) at the tile line. I suspect there is a leak. I also notice the pool coping lifting at this area. Should I fix this myself with some quick set mortar or some Sikaflex for pools? Any advice?

From the pictures I’m not familiar with that specific type of overflow pipe. You state that it has a plug inserted and still the pool looses water below the level of the pipe?

That's right. The plug is inserted and the pool still loses water below the level of the pipe. You can also see that above the plug, the mortar is seperating from the tile.

Unable to see the latest picture you provided. Does the water stop at a specific level? The deck lifting is indication that the soil is expanding and first priority is to locate that source. Can you attempt to send a picture that captures the exposed face of the drain to help with getting a better idea of what’s involved?

Thank you, trying again with the photos. This is the past 24 hours. I think it stops here right under the plug. But I’ll have to wait another day to make sure that’s still true.

12 hours after the last post. The water is around the same level. I removed the plug and this is how it looks like. I’m fairly certain there are gaps around this threaded pipe that’s letting water out. What do you think? How should I seal it?

Yes it looks like the product is missing around the pipe but the level of water is below that. Possibly the grout line that travels below the pipe may be leaking also.

Sikaflex is not the correct product to use in a submersible area.

Use grout or Type S mortar.

The original installation was grout and that’s probably the best product for the repair, remember it’s all about the prep work prior to installation.

If feasible, I’m trying to get something that I don’t have to mix and ideally apply with a caulk gun for ease.

Use grout.

Once you put silicone on an area you will never be able to get anything else to adhere to the area. Long term the silicone will cause you problems. Grout can be repaired as necessary.

Should I do epoxy grout?
