So, it is a flow switch that controls 120 VAC.. And I assume that controls the cell.

Seems to me that if the paddle/switch broke off inside it might cause the problem the OP is having.

Not sure what that proves. The flow through the filter would also be different without the cartridge.

I am not saying that the flow switch is bad, but it is still worth taking it apart and making sure it is ok.

You have got to admit it is an odd problem that I'm not sure we have ever seen reported here before.

To visually check the ac powered switch the op can open the union at the filter outlet and the union at the SWCG and the see if that's fully open or something is missing and is stuck down stream at a valve.

What is the psi on the gauge (give us a number) when the sound is being produced?

Is water flowing into the pool when you hear the sound?

Hey all,

I wanted to provide an update to all on this, and thanks again for the help. I did go ahead and switch the filter cartridge with a new one, as previous troubleshooting in the thread started pointing to that as the problem. The flow to the pool appears to be much more efficient and strong, and the loud noise has not re-appeared since I installed the new cartridge early this morning. I will circle back if that changes, but it appears to be a cartridge issue after all. For sake of closure, here is the cartridge I bought to use:

Any idea what difference there is between the two cartridges?

How old was the "bad" cartridge?

I really do not know that there is a difference aside from age. Old Cartridge was 1.5 years old, but I suspect its useful life may have been far gone. My pool company that built the pool in April of '21 installed the plaster incorrectly, and attempted to remedy it by first doing an acid bath for the pool (for a month), then a drain and acid wash on the pool 3 months later once the acid bath did not work, and then finally replastered the pool this past November. Essentially 4 balance and startups in a 18 month period, with the pump running for much of that time with really harsh chemicals circulating through... I think the filter may have been beaten to Crud.

If this inside hole is too big, water can slip past the tube that goes into the hole and it will make a whistling noise.

The fit has to be snug.

It looks like there is a lip and that can also cause problems.

Sometimes flipping the cartridge over can help, but if the hole is too big, it's probably going to allow a bypass of water which creates a whistling sound.

If you put some tape around the top and bottom pieces that insert into the cartridge holes, then that can create a tighter seal.
