DE spilled into pool when recharging after backwash

Just backwashed my filter and in a brain fart had the pump off when i started pouring my DE slurry into the skimmer. It started floating out into the main pool when i realized my mistake and quickly turned the filter on, but some definitely escaped into a cloud in the pool - I'd guess about a pound of DE of the total 5 pounds I was adding at the most. Is the pool safe to swim? My son has a swim lesson in about an hour...

For this amount, does it need to be vacuumed out or will it make it into the filter eventually, maybe just with some brushing?

Welcome to TFP! DE in pool. Oops. :hammer: Unless you brush it up to keep the DE moving towards the filter, it may sit on the floor at which point you can vacuum it up. Might just take some time since that stuff is so light & fluffy. Keep the pump running though to help the process.

Also be sure to visit our Pool Care Basics page and enjoy the forum. :swim:

I did that once. I just let it settle and hooked up the vacuum, ran the pump normally (not to waste) and vacuumed it back to the filter where it belonged.

Which doesn't help you for swim lessons in an hour... LOL
