Hi everyone, just wondering what this is? My numbers are all good, I’ve been keeping my free chlorine at 6 and the water is clear, but I’m not sure what the stuff is on the bottom? How do I tell the difference between dirt and pollen algae? Thanks for your input!

Do and Overnight Chlorine Loss Test.

if it’s possible or common to have stable numbers and a clear pool and still have algae?
It is possible, not common. Some algae can have a very resilient outer membrane and be quite chlorine resistant. But it is not typical.

Oooooooo that brings up a great point. Above grounds can be particularly prone to wall algae with half of the wall shaded at all times for the most part. Then circulation isn't ideal in any above ground so things tend to grow more often.

Make sure to brush on a regular schedule at least once a week. Whenever you are in there, feel around the walls for slimy spots and get to brushing at your earliest convenience if you find any. (y)

Well my FC didn’t change at all this morning so I’m so relieved! However, the tree behind our yard is blowing sooooo many of those little helicopter seeds right into the pool. Maybe now I understand why people don’t open their pool till later and just fight the algae instead of fighting the battle of the helicopters 🤪🤪
On the plus side, at least they bring back good memories of holding them between our teeth and whistling with them when we were little, and they’re not bugs! 🎉

Jenny I have the same problem as you. My pictures are identical lol, maybe even the same liner. What did you end up doing?
Hi! It’s nice to know I’m not the only one! I’m assuming it’s just dirt or something? We do let our dog in the pool quite a bit so maybe I’ll blame her? 😂I brush the pool and I’ve done the overnight test several times and it’s always zero and other than that the water is clear so I’m assuming it’s not algae! What have you been doing?

Did you end up using SLAM to get the overnight test down to zero? That’s what I’m doing now. I thought it was dirt too, but no pets in the pool and I’ve kept everyone out of it for about a week now.

I’m on day 3 of SLAM and the substance is not coming back. Just dialing in the overnight test, which is currently at 2.

Here’s a picture of what it looked like when I started SLAM

My overnight test actually started at zero so I didn’t have to slam it. I guess I’m just chalking it up to dirt?
