The gap is dangerous. A friend had similar and my oldest one biffed it jumping in. Her leg went down the hole and she was stuck laying flat just under the water. Thank goodness they are rather bendy when they're little because her leg was bent like trying to snap a green twig. And in the meantime ? She was trapped underwater with no leverage to get up. She would have had to do the ultimate sit up using only the trapped leg. I was right there and jumped in, lifting her enough to breathe and get the leg out, but yeah. Trust me. It was zero fun.

Everybody is laughing and having fun until they ain't.

I would take it apart and rebuild or use a treated 2"x12" around the permitter. This would be 8" on deck and 4" spanning gap kind of following a cantilever ratio of 2/3 and 1/3. Newdude sharing about the girl and her knee bending that way made me sick and not including could have drown. Knees are not made to bend that way think about Napoleon Macallum Raider`s running back that snapped his knee by being pushed forward with his knee stationary just a nightmare.

For sure. Thank god you were there newdude. That gap is the reason no one is going to use the pool even after the electrical is done. We haven’t used it yet and it’s been up for 10 days.

My contractor friend is going to come back and hopefully help me temporarily fill the space and allow us to use the ladder. If we can’t figure it out the pool is a no go for the party.

In the meantime even with this heat (high 90s sunny all week) I only burned off 2ppm of FC!

My numbers were the same both today and yesterday as tested mid day:

FC 3
CYA 40
PH 7.3
TA 70
CH 60
CC .5

Added 27 of LC to get it back up to 5 each time.
Added a little borax to up the ph a bit.

I’m definitely getting faster with testing and getting used to the process. I have to probably add more water soon. On Monday I had to add about an inch the pump was getting air bubbles. I didn’t temp the water but it’s warm!

I intend on rebuilding I just can’t do it before the 30th. That’s good advice on the 2x12! I will probably go that route just for the one time use.

Think how the knee bends. It bent like that but to the side instead But she was probably 7 and flexible and no lasting harm was done.

U can dose to the high target for your cya (7ppm) or even a scootch higher to prevent u from skirting minimum. It is safe to swim w/fc anywhere between minimum & slam level for your cya so long as u can see the bottom of the pool for safety purposes. Your ph is fine - u can aerate ( point your returns up) to raise ph a little without increasing ta & ending up on a merry go round

The heat! Thanks to TFP my water has been super clear! It sucks that I can’t go in yet due to ladder etc. The only thing I can’t stop is the constant cherry tree leaves coming in.

Last year it was pine needles this year cherry tree leaves lol. It’s so dry the leaves are just falling off lately.

I can imagine! The temps there have been hotter longer with no rain vs here. Our area has had no real rain in 3 weeks and the heat has just steadily gone up. My lawn is looking like hay and there dead leaves all over.

When you have a free moment AFTER making a walk way into the pool I have another job for you

See that flex hose? Please put sch 20 pvc with a union and valve in it's place. THEN see where the paver under the skimmer/return area? Get another one and have them go just to the wall with out touching it and out a bit. Have them sloped a bit so WHEN water splashed out in the skimmer area it will hit the pavers and to away from the pool.

Kim, because of you I repurposed one of those short concrete gutter splash blocks under my skimmer- it works swimmingly!

Assuming you mean sch 40? Yup we will be adding the rest of the pvc next week.

I’ve seen you mention the paver tip before and will definitely do that when we are doing the landscaping after the electrical inspection. I have some of the pavers left from the old pool!

Well the 2x12s worked! The cuts weren’t great because I had to use my jig saw ( my circular saw deck was bent) I was able to get the ladder in and the kids had fun all weekend.

I had to get another ladder though since the pool and deck are different. Will put the new ladder together this week since no one wanted to wait to swim today ha.

The water was perfect! Crystal clear and balanced! Today in 99 degree heat, and kids playing in the pool for 4 hours I only lost 2ppm.

Topped it off to get back up to 7 for the night.

So I was putting the new ladder together. When drilling holes for the back barrier, the drill bit broke and about a 1.5” piece of the 1/8” bit is now inside the bottom step!

Do you think I should drill a larger hole to get it out or it’s not that big of a deal? Not sure if that piece of metal over time would be an issue in the water.

I tried to see if water itself would be enough weight to hold down the steps but it still wanted to float up. The old ladder has some gravel in them which I’ll transfer to The new one. That plus the water should weigh it down.

I figured! Thanks for the fast response! I guess it was a good thing I couldn’t install it right away. I think if I drill a larger hole I can get that sucker outta there.
