Hello!
Our 16 x 32 vinyl liner pool is about 4 weeks old. We started noticing a film on the pool walls that is gritty to the touch. We are brand new to the pool world. Neither of us have l ever owned or cared for a pool. Our pool builder was amazing, but we didn’t get any education on how to care for the pool. We told him about the film, but he wasn’t sure what it was. I will attach a picture of the water report we just had done yesterday as well as a photo of the walls. Our robot has been picking up a white fluffy substance that we aren’t sure is related. Basically I just want to figure out how to remove the film and prevent it from happening again. Thank you!!

Welcome to TFP! Seems awful soon in a pool one month old to get scale. Collect some of it and pour some vinegar on it to see if it fizzles. Do you have a salt water generator? Please be sure to update your signature with all of your pool and equipment info. See mine as an example. One thing is for sure, I wouldn't take any serious action based on those store test results. Store testing is notoriously wrong. Always test your own water with either a TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C. I would start there. In the meantime, bookmark our Pool Care Basics page for lots of great info.

Thank you for replying.
I updated my signature. Hopefully I put all the correct info in and it makes sense.
I did collect some water and put some white vinegar in it. It did not fizz. What would that indicate if it did fizz?
I had no idea that pool stores water tests were incorrect. I did purchase the Taylor test kit (k-2006), but haven’t taken the time to learn how to use it. I will make a point to start studying about it. Thank you again for your reply.

Fizzing would've indicated calcium. So now we have to ask what products you've been adding to the water if you can recall them all. Types of chlorine, gels, anything you may have picked up at the pool store or somewhere else. Maybe we'll see something that could explain that stuff. In the meantime, we'll watch for your own testing. The link below should help.
