Need Answers Quick !

I have a busted return in my Steps I have caulked rigged and tip toed around it , Now i have cut up the deck removed the gravel and the fitting on the end of the water line just does not seem like it is going to seal right The return i am installing is a hayward sp 1023 with the nut on the back , the pool store sold me the wrong gaskets on the item off the rip , I guess my question is what is the process and what does the fitting on the end of the water line supposed to be , right now its an ......picture example , also it seems the line is a bit short tuff to get in together should i add a new fitting or is there a order for getting it together I know the where the gaskets and flange nut go but tightening them is quite difficult just seems like there is not a guaranteed seal on the back side from the water line . Do i glue the fitting on the back side , finding info or videos seems like a wild goose chase , everything but what i need pops up , I have to have this ready for a graduation party. I have replaced every single thing on this pool from pump and motor to electrical , lights , plumbing , water heater , everything but the lining and well this, something about this return on the steps doesnt feel right I only get one shot at this . Im at my wits end!!!!!

Since you have taken it so far, it would be best to replace that male adapter as well. The taper in the threads looks a little too much. It is not glued, just threaded into the wall fitting. Do not tighten all the way in, about 3 threads should be showing after it is tight.

I always use about 5 wraps of Teflon tape and then a thin layer of silicone sealant (not grease) to seal the fitting. It is NOT glued in. Threaded fittings are regularly used in underground installations, especially on pool skimmers, with no issues if done correctly.

the male end is glued to the water line in the ground pic 1 and the wall fitting is new , i figured the male end looked alittle rough , but the line has no slack what so ever so getting all the parts aligned and started is tough especially since the nut is litterlly on top of you working hand, i dont under stand how i am supposed to turn the fitting to get the male end threaded its just a face plate , can i thread something through the front and get it to turn. the male end on the water line does not turn.

oh yea if i cut the male end off and glue a new one it will never reach it is zero slack as is
i definately want a new one but wanted to get some advice before i cut it off

The male adapter is glued to the flex pvc so to replace it you will need to cut that off. You will probably need a coupling & another short piece of flex pvc for it to still reach.
1st- The return fitting gets screwed into the wall & the new male adapter into that - then u glue the flex pvc into the new male adapter After everything else is screwed in place in the pool wall.

right on right on thats what i ment by adapter im new to this forum thing i just didnt know if it was acceptable to do so i only need a inch or so , but the idea of trying to glue in that hole and ive never glued to line before kinda put me off but def sounds about what i figured i guess i was hoping for something easier
