Just opened up the water pump motor. The bearings turn easy but the thing was caked full of carbon dust. It’s everywhere!

Yup … brushed DC motors in a confined space … stupidest design choice ever. Brushless DC motors would make way more sense but they’d have to update their board design which I’m sure they don’t want to do ….

It’s easy enough to clean up. But your motor needs new brushes.

All of this stuff is above my pay grade. LOL. I know nothing about these motors, brushes, bearings and how to fix them. I guess I will get use my air compressor to blow off all the carbon dust and then try to get the motor put back together and store it. Hopefully my new motor assembly will last a long time.

I need to see if they will ship to the US. It appears that this is Sweden, I have a college friend that lives there now. Need them to send me one, it appears the conversion price would be around $30 for the motor.

That sounds about right. Brushed DC motors are cheap. I've seen the drive motor listed on some sites in the US and they charge $100 but they also include the shaft seal and teflon gear with it. The drive motor all by itself is probably cheaper than the impeller motor. SO even if you include those two together, you're looking at around $80 worth of motors. Everything else inside the "black box" costs dollars and so, at the end of the day, Maytronics makes a $150 motor assembly that is sold retail to customers for $450 or more .... nice little profit there to the manufacturer, distributors, and retailers. Can't blame them for maximizing their haul because most people are unwilling to fix anything nowadays and just want everything to be disposable and replaceable ... so Maytronics charges the market accordingly ...

You should ask your friend to send you a pallet full of motors, then you can make a killing selling all the extras to TFP robot owners ....

One other option you might consider if shipping stuff from Sweden is too costly would be to contact Marina's Spa & Patio (the TFP go to source for all things robotic) and see if they can source the impeller motor from Maytronics. Being a Maytronics retailer, they will have access to repair channel at Maytonics corporate and they may be able to get the motor. Hard to say what the mark up would be, but it might be worth a phone call or two.

When I was replacing some track and wheel components, I emailed Marina's to see if they could get the bushings for me. They were very slow to respond, took weeks to get an e-mail back from them, but they did say they could order the parts for me directly from Maytronics. So it might just be a matter of asking them to source it.

I never got a response from Marina. I’ve found my impeller motor on ebay listed as used from Israel for about $100 total with cost and shipping. I assume these might be new. I have found that I don't use my robot as much as in the past. I use my skimmer net to get most of the stuff in the usual spots. I only use my robot if the pool is dirty and I know that I can remove it and rinse it off after the 2 hour cycle. Hopefully it lasts longer

I recently email Marina and another online Dolphin reseller to ask about the drive motor. While they both confirmed that Maytronics lists it as a part on their website, they both stated that it is never “in stock” and available for resale. So basically the only option is to search eBay and look for people selling used robot parts. I’ve found the motor on eBay but I’m still figuring out how it is mounted to plastic flange. It looks like the brass coupling on the motor has two flats and that you screw it down into place. But there are internal edges that lock the motor into place making it a one time deal - once you snap the motor onto the flange you can’t back it off without seriously damaging the plastic.

Anyway, still working on the motor assembly but so far not too hopeful it will ever run again. As stated previously - these motors are designed for failure and not fixing … sad.
