Hey all, as the subject says. My PH is in range 7.8but my TA is way high 150. How can i lower the TA without dropping the PH too much? Even when my PH was 7.2 my TA was still in the 100s.

I/we don’t see your signature below your posts. I assume you have one of the recommended test kits, TF-100 from tftestkits.net or the Taylor K-2006C from Amazon. If your kit is fairly new the R-009 reagent may have a static cling/charge on the tip, which makes the drops smaller and the test reading high. Wipe the tip with a damp not wet paper towel before/after each drop to ensure you’re getting the correct size drops.

If all of that is good and your TA is 150, have you tested your fill water? If your fill water TA is 150 you’ll be having a continuous cycle of lowering pH as it rises and not focusing on TA. It will, TA, come down over the season.

I am using the k-2006c kit to test. I will try that and retest later when i get a chance. Pool was filled 2/3 by tank (chlorinated spring water) and 1/3 city/hose water.

I looked back at your previous posts and it appears as though you have a vinyl pool.

With that in mind, all of your numbers look fine. Just keep pH and range and don't worry about TA.

For me a high TA causes my PH to slowly climb, then when the PH hits 8.0, I add muratic acid to lower PH & TA. Once my TA get's in the 60 -90 range the PH rise slows and stops, After that I can maintain PH & TA with little effort.

Some people lower TA by aereateing till the PH reaches 8.0, then add muratic acid to lower the PH to 7.2, and start the aereation process all over again. When you add muratic acid it lowers both PH & TA, then aereation raises PH without adding chemicals, This is a faster way to lower TA, but as stated above, I would just control PH and let the TA naturaly settle out.

Yea, its an IG 28-30k-ish gallon vinyl pool. TA isnt a concern in this case?
HighTA will speed up pH rise. As @drsipe mentioned, each time you add muriatic acid, your TA will drop. If your TA continues to rise, you can take more aggressive approaches to lowering the level through aeration. Test the TA of your fill water. If it is higher than your pool, your ta level will want to rise continually.

Higher TA levels can also contribute to scaling within a swg cell, but that usually happens in conjunction with higher calcium levels.
