Opening pool for the spring for first time

Hello!
My pool was never winterized, covered, it was full of leaves (and a dead squirrel, but I’ll spare those details). I scooped out all the leaves a couple weeks ago, poured 6 gallons of bleach in it. Hooked up the filter yesterday (by watching YouTube videos). Got the water to the right level to start the filter. It started. I added de, I shocked it, I have had to bump the filter just about every hour today. I backwashed a few times thinking maybe I added too much de, it came out in clumps. I keep checking on it and the ghas no pressure l. I end up bumping it every time I go out there. It’s at about 21 psi. I don’t know what to do! Please help!

You need to follow the SLAM Process. To do that, you need a proper test kit. I suggest the TF-100 or Taylor K2006C. A proper test kit is needed to get the accurate water chemistry results needed to follow the TFP protocols.

While you are waiting on your test kit, add 5 ppm FC worth of liquid chlorine / plain bleach to your pool each evening with the pump running. This will replenish the FC lost each day to the sun and also inhibit any algae in the water from growing further.
With a DE filter, and that you cannot bypass the filter, it would be best to just circulate for an hour or so after adding the chlorine. Then turn the pump off. Once you get your kit, then expend the energy to use the filter.
