Hayward booster pump case cracked

My 4-year-old booster pump casing(volute) finally cracked and leaking now. Should I replace the casing or get a new whole unit?

It's Hayward model#6060 3/4 HP. I read once it starts leaking, the water gets inside the motor and eventually fails. Does it even worth the money/time spent to fix it? Also, the Polaris vacuum cleaner is moving so slow for the past couple years. Is the 3/4 hp strong enough?

If not, what would be a good booster pump to replace it with?

Even though water from the volute should be separated from the motor by the shaft seals, once it's cracked it should be replaced. A new volute is a little over $110 as seen HERE compared to a whole new unit which can cost well over $400. But if the entire unit is old, now may be the time to just replace everything.

Did you pull your motor and seal plate away from the volute as one assy? A visual might show the assy healthy. Was or is the motor quiet when running. Prior to this failure plus your 2 years did your polaris run around ok?

The unit is 4 years old, but I don't run it daily, so probably the motor is still in good condition. But I read the replacement parts are not always an exact match and require extra work like drilling holes and stuff like that. Not sure if the repair cost is worth it than merely replacing the motor. Any thoughts?

I didnt remove anything yet. Also the Polaris was real slow in moving around. Not sure the pump or something else.

I do the same on Amazon and try very hard to figure out of the product is reliable. But sometimes reviews can be confusing, especially if the person posting didn't do something properly. I don't know in this case. It's going to be a gut-check and go with your instinct. You might also be sure (if not already) to compare those Amazon parts to other pool sites, not only for cost but for reviews and product reliability. Maybe place a call to Inyopools and speak to someone directly about your concerns for parts swap.

Any true booster pump will run your 280. Virtually all of them are 3/4hp (though now DOE regulations call for new labeling). Polaris says that a 280 will travel about 2500 miles per year in your pool if used in the way most people do. They are good machines, but still just plastic with a few stainless bearings. Many times slow moving is due to the wall-screen (or in-line screen, whichever you have) being clogged, especially after a filter cleaning.

Don't make the mistake I have seen of trying to run a standard pool pump, you will, at best, ruin the hose or the entire cleaner. Even the pressure relief won't release enough water/pressure to keep it from harm.
