OK to alternate between Cal Hypo Granules and Trichlor Chlorinator?

So long story, but my father-in-law just had his pool drained and cleaned (not replastered). He has been a lifelong inline chlorinator and trichlor puck user and does the usual draining every couple of years. I think he honestly thinks other things like power outages and storms are the only reason he has had to drain, but that besides the point. Ever since we got our pool and I found this group, I have been trying to help him care for his pool in a healthier way and this latest drain was the perfect excuse to start fresh. I helped him with his start up with new water and got all his levels in check where he needed them. Latest test

FC 9.5 (have it running on the high side incase he forgets to add for a day or two)
CC 0
PH 7.6
TA 90
CH 200 (raising it with the current bucket Cal Hypo granules he already had from the pool store)
CYA 40

Issue is that i dont think he is going to want to go through the hassle of maintaining it with bleach/LC everyday. He never (and i mean never!) swims in it and it was built for his kids (who have all since grown and moved out). It is literally just used when grandkids come in town. Im trying to convince him that if he just dumps a few cups worth of bleach every other day and a couple cups of acid a week (he has a waterfall that aerates a lot) he should be fine, but I dont think he would even keep up with that. He's "spoiled" by the tab feeder.

My next best idea was to have him alternate with adding the cal-hypo granules/tabs (in a floater NOT in the trichlor feeder) one week and then use the trichlor tab feeder another week. The idea being alternating CH and CYA raises and possibly by him more time before having to drain again one day, or maybe even let rain water and splash out even things out over time.

Thoughts??

You may use any form of Chlorine you wish. Tracking what they are doing to you and when to switch will certainly add more time for anyone looking to do so. At times members have had supply shortages this last while that forced them to use what they could get.

PSA. NEVER EVER EVER mix different forms of Chlorine. Because BOOM and chemical burns. Maybe shrapnel too. Any common containers must be thoroughly rinsed between changing forms.

Yea I made sure to tell him that. Plan was to use cal hypo as granules or in a floater and only use tricolor in the inline feeder.

Hopefully I can get him to see the light eventually and just pour some bleach in every couple days.

I would let him have high CYA and drain the pool as necessary.

Having high CH can lead to scale which is much harder to fix then high CYA. I would not lead him down that path. It does not sound like he has the interest in managing his CSI and a high CH pool to prevent scale.

Totally forgot about CSI and yes that makes sense. I’ll probably let him use the cal-hypo he has left over that I’m his CH is in a good range then switch to the tabs while I work on him to buy a an SWG.
