Replacing 8650 SwimQuip Skimmer and not sure what Hayward or Pentair or similar model number to order?

Hello.
What should I be looking for when replacing a skimmer as far as brand or size?
Is there a certain length or width that I should be looking for or are they standard for gunite pools?
I see Pentair and Hayward are good brands but not sure of the model numbers I should be ordering.
I am ordering for my pool remodeler to install in my gunite, inground pool from the 1980's or older before they plaster and replace tile.
Thanks.

Welcome to TFP.

There is not a standard skimmer size.

I think the key dimension is the skimmer mouth rectangle that needs to fit the opening in your bond beam. And it looks like you want a skimmer with a round cover, unless you want to change to a square cover.

You need to measure the dimensions of your skimmer and browse websites to find the best fit.

Thank you. I have some measuring to do. How do I know if I need a 2" or a 1.5" manifold connection before the old skimmer is removed?

Look at the suction pipe size coming out of the ground.

Really doesn’t matter. You can always use an adapter from one size to the other if you guess wrong.

is the suction pipe the white PVC coming from the pump
Yes. It's most likely the whole pad uses the same size. If so and any Stamps are still visible, it will say on the pipes. If they've been painted or faded in the UV, wrap a flexible tape measure around the pipe (a fabric one would be best) and divide by 3.14 to find the outside diameter. Subtract a skootch for the width of the pipe itself and that's your inside diameter. Either way the # will be closest to the half inch it is.

Ok, I am really green, is the suction pipe the white PVC coming from the pump? Thank you.
It is the PVC from the ground to the pump inlet.

The equipment pad pipe size used is sometimes different then the pipe size used in the ground. 1.5” pipe may be used in the ground and the equipment plumbed with 2” pipe.
