New Pool Build Photos - Highland Park, California

Hey Everyone,

Been following this forum for nearly a year now. Excited to say that 9+ months since signing our contract with a PB we've finally broken ground and started the build process. The 9+ months of waiting on permits and other delays has been a miserable process, but we're super excited things are finally underway.

Our Pool Specs:
- 12 x 16 in-ground pool
- 6 x 8 attached spa
- Pentair Intelliflo 3 Hp. 8 speed variable with rare earth magnet Pool/Spa pump
- Pentair 400,000 BTU Pool/Spa heater with digital control
- Pentair 420 filter
- Pentair Sand Shark Vacuum
- Pentair Screenlogic WiFi
- Pentair Saltwater purification system
- Automatic water leveler
- Pentair 5 G LED color changing GFCI protected Pool light with low water shut off sensor
- Pentair 5 G LED color changing GFCI protected Spa light with low water shut off sensor
- Urban Snow Modern Marble Brushed and Sandblasted coping
- Arctic White Ledger Panels

Steel/rebar is tentatively scheduled for this Wednesday/Thursday depending on how the weather holds up.

Going to get a lot of rain on Tuesday and Tuesday nigh, you really don’t want your rebar guy working in the mud. One thing I would do is have the plumber install the main drains before rebar and have them left exposed for your first inspection.

We were originally going to build a smooth stucco concrete wall along our property line, but the footing underground for the wall would've required the water's edge to be about 4'6" from the property line. We ditched that idea and have decided to build a nice 8' redwood fence along the property line which enabled us to push the water's edge ~3' from the property line. A foot and a half may not sound like much, but we wanted the extra clearance when walking between the spa and the laundry room and didn't want to make our spa any smaller than it already is.

Side note, the rain is really coming down today in Los Angeles. Some of the walls of our dig have partially collapsed. I can't imagine this will be good for our build timeline.

Gotta be honest, I am most curious about what the plan is for re-routing the sewer line. That has me perplexed.

Great question. Plumbers started working this morning on rerouting the sewer line, gas and water (for the laundry room) to the front of the pool. So if you're looking at the picture above, the sewer line will be routed in front of the left edge of the pool and then take a right turn back to the line on the backside.

Not a fun expense, but a necessary one. Plumbers did a great job.

Not expecting to get anymore work done for the next couple weeks with the holidays coming and the continued weather struggles.

The old sewer line had a cleanout. The new one appears to not have this. Is that not a code requirement?

If in fact that is true and no clean out I'd get that done right away and not wait till it's forgotten about because they'd have rip open the pool deck....to install it.

The new sewer line definitely has a clean out. It's been moved just behind our crawlspace access point. Which is great because now it's out of sight. We've been careful to make sure all the work being done is by the book and is up to code. The problem we keep running into is that the previous owners cut corners in a lot of areas. We've only owned our house for 1.5 years (purchased right at the beginning of the pandemic), but we've had to redo a lot of things to bring them up to code including the plumbing underneath the house (beyond that of just the rerouting pictured above).

Progress update: We finally had steel put in today!


Plumbing will hopefully happen before the end of the week. Fingers crossed.

Plumbing finished up this week. We have an inspection scheduled for Wednesday. If we pass inspection, shotcrete/gunite should happen shortly thereafter. Exciting to see progress.

Any thoughts on the Pentair 5G light in our pool? Is it dimmable? We're a little concerned it'll be annoyingly bright at times given the small size of our pool.

We finally made it to shotcrete!!! Time to start watering...

Under-watering can obviously cause problems, but are there any concerns with over watering?

No concerns with over watering, the Shotcrete needs to stay hydrated for a minimum of 72 hours, 7 straight days is best to achieve a minimum of 4,000 psi after 28 days.
