Need opinion on pool quote

This is a 16x32 pool with tanning shelf. The pool depth is 4 ft and 5 ft.
I'm still waiting on the quote for automatic pool cover. Is the extra spa expensive?
Any issues with equipment?

Overall, a nice simple layout. It will be easy to cover and you have lots of room for swimming activities.

The description of the equipment reads well, VS pump, large cartridge filter, SWCG however it would be best to know the mfg. name - is it Jandy, Pentair or Hayward (those are the big 3).

The 2 skimmers are good - have each independently run back to the equipment pad. Also, have the main drain run as independent line back to equipment pad.

I would strongly suggest an automation system if you go with the spa. That helps making switching between Pool Mode and Spa Mode easier. Also you can control the heater, light. air blower, etc. You can also control the SWCG (assuming the SWCG is same mfg. of automation).

You need to way the options on the pool cleaner. I have the Polaris 280 and it works find. It does require the extra booster pump. Many pool owners are switching to an electric robot cleaner. You will need a GFCI outlet nearby (within code). Some leave their robot in full time and others remove it after each use. Polaris also makes a pressure operated cleaner that performs like a robot (but still requires a booster pump). I run my Polaris 280 about 1 hr each day (sometimes more if it is especially windy with lots of debris from trees).

With regard to a spa - it is better to add it now then wish you had it a year from now. But it is extra expense not only for the spa but you will add the heater, the air blower, another light, etc. So the costs build up.

I am sure others will chime in. Keep us posted on your thoughts and any changes.

My guess is $20K as that is the price they list for a spa on your bid.. :mrgreen:

If you have never been in a gunite spa before, you need to try one before you buy one.. You will either love it or hate it.. If you hate it, it is better to know before spending $20K on something you won't be using.. If you love it, then it will be worth the $20K.

Go robot or go home.. Unless you still like your old black rotary-dial telephone, in which case the Polaris will work just fine for you. :)

My pool doesn't have a vacuum line, so option was either $1000 to add a suction line, or $1000 to buy a robot. Easiest decision of my life, especially because I hate having to swim around the vacuum tube in my father's pool.

My son named the robot "Water Rocket"... He's 5, we're working on it lol. But now I know not to let him name the dog when we get one!

You don't mention anything about children. 2-6 years old love my spa. It is a good depth for them, they can easily stand on a seat, etc. So a spa is not just for adults sipping adult beverages and watching movies/sports/etc.
Once they learn to swim and tread water, they will venture to the big pool. The spa also gives them a play area for their dolls or trucks, etc. where they can stand and still play in the water.

You may be thinking a sun deck does the same. It does to some extent but a sun deck is usually a set depth somewhere between 6-18 inches - so there is some benefit but I have found a spa is so much more for the kids, IMHO. Plus it can be heated separately from the pool so it is very helpful for parents with children less than 2 that are just in a float or holding on to their parent.

What do you mean by price they list for a spa on my bid? Is it overpriced or under? I'm not sure what's the price range for a spa...

I'm comparing one of my neighbor quote, another pool builder. Her 7 ft round spa is about $8400 and its integrated. I'm looking at the specs, not much different. She did it July 2021.
So I'm definitely getting overbid unless I'm missing something very important.?

That said, I suspect that her spa is a simple raised spa and it looks like yours is an "In the pool" infinity edge kind of spa...

I suggest that you pose the question to your pool builder and ask what makes your spa cost so much more.

Buying a pool is a lot like buying a mattress.. While you are trying out the mattress, the salesman is trying to see how big your wallet is.. :mrgreen:

When I read this initially, I interpreted that all the items listed were in the $20k - not just the spa. That is why I stated an automation system is helpful if you have a spa and you would normally add a heater if you had a spa, etc. So check with your PB to ensure what was included. A heater is around $3000, an automation system can be $2500, etc. so it all adds up. Look at your neighbors bid to see if some of these items are broken out separately.
