Can I wire my lights individually? Aqualink RS4

We have three LED lights. I’d like to be able to turn the one on the tanning shelf off and on by itself. I currently have three Jandy Valve Actuators and the last relay is hooked up to the pump which makes me think controlling the lights doesn’t require a relay. The lights go into a low voltage box and then into the Aqualink Box. Thanks for any help you can provide!!

Here’s my setup:

Welcome to TFP.

Each low voltage light(s) you want to control separately needs a dedicated transformer box controlled by a high voltage relay AUX circuit in your Aqualink. It looks like you have the right two relays available. But you need two more pool light transformers and need to rewire two lights into them.

Thanks for the quick reply.
So if I want to keep two lights on the same circuit and dedicate the tanning ledge light, all I need is another transformer?

Seems simple enough. Thanks again.

Yup.

Any idea how to add it in Aqualink. Aqualink shows I don’t have any extra AUX channels. I’m not 100% sure the lights were done right in the app since the PB’s son did it and he didn’t even know how to put the actuators or or control their flow.
Do they need to be assigned to an AUX like this? Thanks

You really needed to get a RS6 or 8 to do what you want.

You want to control five things and only have four AUX channels.

You have two open relays.

Why are the jets and bubblers on an aux relay?

What equipment do you have?

Jets and bubblers should be on a valve and a pump speed unless you have separate pumps for those things.

One JVA may be able to be moved back to the Solar button to free up an AUX button.

With a RS4 Jandy limits the buttons you have available for relays and JVAs.

9.12 Assign JVAs
The ASSIGN JVAs menu allows Jandy® Valve Actuators (JVAs) to be assigned to any auxiliary button.
This means that whenever you press that auxiliary button, a valve turns. On pool/spa combination
models, there are commonly two (2) extra JVAs that can be assigned to
auxiliary buttons: the Cleaner JVA and the Solar JVA.

Thanks everyone. Here’s the quick info regarding my setup:

RS4 - Pool Only (no spa). One 2HP VSP
- JVA for the deck jets near the house in our decking (connected to intake input)
-JVA for the Deck jets along the fence (connected to return input)
- JVA for the bubbler on the tanning ledge (connected to cleaner input)
*I want to control them independently bc we have small kids and there are times we don’t want all the jets on at the same time.

I’ve reassigned the JVA Aux to those listed above. Is that the best way to do it?

I’m just trying to understand if there is any other way to assign the 4 Aux relay wiring’s (2 still open; 1 is for the pump and 1 is for the lights) through Aqualink instead of assigning the JVAs to them (and any other way to control the JVAs through the app). If I can’t do it, I don’t understand how I can control 5 things now (pump, lights, and 3 JVAs) with only 4 Aux.

Thanks for all your help. I’ve tried calling Jandy Support but there wait times are 2 plus hours and I’m not home during
normal business hours and I’m trying to wrap my head around the software as it’s not the most user friendly interface.

Here’s my App screens. I also have no clue why the temp controls are there as we don’t have a heater.

You have only 4 AUXs. The "extra Aux" is the solar relay. So you are screwed you can only control 4 things. It doesn't matter how many physical relays are in the box itself, only how many "aux" circuits you have.

The pump works on its own circuit and does not consume an AUX port.

You basically need to replace your RS4 PCB board with an RS6 or RS8 to get 2 or 4 more AUX ports. Makes sure it is rev T.2 or later. Like the below except that is RS4 which is what you already have. Don't get a PDA board.

This is just a small board that attaches to your main Aqualink board. It takes about 10 minutes to replace the board. I show my old PDA board for size purposes and to show what you are replacing. I replaced my PDA board with an RS board. You may be able to find one on ebay.

Thanks.
So I’ve read that people have reassigned their solar to control their landscape lights. Wondering if I can do that for the tanning shelf light??

Or I’ll just have to upgrade the board. Thanks.

It seems to me that you should be able to control 4 relays and 4 valve actuators in any way that you want, but Jandy seems to have intentionally made it as dumb as possible.

Thanks.

Yeah I have done that. You cannot do that since you are using the "extra aux". Your pic below shows AUX2, 3 and "extra aux" already assigned. Based on the below, you have 3 JVAs controlled by 3 of your 4 aux ports. Your 4th aux port, aux1 is assigned to your pool lights. Your builder undersized your system.

Thank you all for the help.
We added the second set of deck jets during the build and I bought the third actuator bc I wanted to be able to control the bubbler (builder doesn’t put a JVA on the bubbler) so it’s not the builders fault…and I want to control them each independently. To me that’s more functional then separating the lights out.

If I can’t do it without upgrading the board I’ll just hold off until next year as we might get a heat pump anyways and I’ll need another AUX for that
The main reason for wanting to control the tanning ledge light is when we sit outside at night, off to the side of the pool, that light bounces off the shallow water into our eyes. I’ve tried finding a shield to deflect the light down, but can’t find anything suitable for a pool light.

Thank you all again for your help!!!

A HP does not use an AUX circuit. The heater controls are a different part of the Aqualink.
