We just built our pool this summer and we have an SR smith typhoon pool slide anchored in about 6-8" from the edge of the pool. It's the only thing that caused my pool company to measure for a custom cover.

We're at the tail end of our season now and were originally supposed to close 4 days from now and were just informed that the mfg is going to take many more weeks to create the custom cover with the cutout for the slide, due to typical shortages these days. Additionally it will cost $1k more for the custom fit.

The pool company said they can probably use the standard cover and make it work but some material may bunch up around the slide base. This will save us $1k and get us closed quicker for the winter.

This is my first pool so I'm just not sure which way to go. I'm tempted to just say let's make a standard cover work but I want the cover to be a good fit for many years to come.

Am I over thinking it? Is it not that big of a deal? I'd appreciate the thoughts.

Show us pics of your pool so we can get an idea how a standard cover would fit.

I am told the standard cover would be the shape of the pool, since it's a fiberglass pool and they already make covers to match this model. The custom cover would be the same shape, however it would have the cutout for the slide.

Your slide is on a corner which helps.

I would give a standard rectangle cover a try. I think they can work the corner around the slide.

$1k just to go around the slide is significant. I’d go with the standard cover and find a way to make it work. We have a Katch-a-Leaf custom cover that is anchored into the concrete. If your cover uses similar anchors and you end up with an anchor or 2 under the slide, you’ll want to start putting it on at that point, as the last few anchors can be really tough based on the tension of the cover.
