Jets still function while on “waste” setting

Hi,

while trying to get rid of algae using the waste setting the jets are still functioning which is bringing the algae back into the pool. The waste line is still pumping out water with no issue. I can’t figure out why the waste line is functioning normal but some water is returning to the pool through the jets at the same time. Please help!

You need to provide more info on your filter and valving. My assumption is that you have a multiport valve in front of your filter. It allows you to switch from filter to waste to backwash. That gasket could be broken and letting flow migrate between the different settings.

I have a multi port valve on top of my sand filter which has filter, recirculate, backwash, waste, winter, closed

I have a multi port valve on top of my sand filter which has filter, recirculate, backwash, waste, winter, closed

Then that spider gasket in it may be damaged which is allowing flow to migrate between 2 ports. There should be 8-10 screws hold the top on. The spider gasket is under that.
