Where is my FC going?

Last week I tested my my FC and it was at 1.5, I raised my SWCG to 45% and I run my VSP 24 hours. This is the highest I’ve ever had the SWCG, it usually is between 25% and 35%. I just tested again and I’m still at 1.5 FC. CC is 0 and CYA is a little low at 60. We have had full sun the past week and bather load has been normal (just the family - 2 adults and 2 kids). Water looks crystal clear and I cleaned my filter a couple of weeks ago. I just put a trichlor tab in each of my two skimmers to keep the chlorine level up and add a little CYA while I figure this out. Any ideas? Could I have a algae bloom with a 0 CC? Do I need to do a OCLT?

Thanks!
Joe

At 45% 24 hours a day you are creating 3.4 ppm FC for a 20K pool. That is pretty average. I would add 5 ppm FC worth of liquid chlorine and see if the SWCG can maintain 5 or 6 ppm FC.

You should not put trichlor in the skimmer. Get a floating dispenser.

Thank you, just put a gallon of 10% in. I’ll test again tomorrow.

I’m curious, what is the issue with putting tabs in the skimmer?

Trichlor is acidic and can damage your pool equipment, particularly your heater. By placing them directly in the skimmer, you're allowing higher concentrations of acidic pool water to run through the equipment.
