How to get bulk chlorine? Has COVID influenced prices?

I'm wondering if anyone here has experience buying bulk chlorine like a drum or pallet of jugs delivered. I'm in WI. Has COVID affected prices at all?

Last season I was burning through, what seemed to be, and abnormally high amount of chlorine. I was buying at Menards (regional big box like home depot / lowes). I bough a few cases from my pool store and was using HALF as much. both were 12.5% I think Menards must have been sitting on theirs for a few years.

Any thoughts / ideas are greatly appreciated.

As always thanks to this great forum I have a fantastic pool that I take care of myself and it only gets nicer and nicer each year!!!

if you can find a local distributer that sells 25 gallons of 12.5% and you can get another jug the same size you can transfer half of it to the other container.. Then just fill both containers with water.. You will have 6% chlorine and it will last longer.. Also if you have it in an area where it does not heat up and no sun it will also last longer...

Please DO NOT do this, I just found it can start to rapidly breakdown into oxygen, water and salt if diluted...

I'm just looking for ideas on bulk chlorine orders. Wondering if anyone's done it. Not trying to dilute or anything. I go 12.5% straight into pool per what I've read on these forums.

You can still buy in bulk and keep it in a dark and cool place and it will last longer.. I just saw a supply company for janitors and they sold bulk chlorine...

I found that out once the hard way. I wanted to refill my mold remover spray bottle, but had run out of household bleach. So I thought, let's use some pool liquid chlorine and dilute it with water. Wasn't the best of my ideas.

Hey neighbor!

Farm and Fleet in Waukesha has fresh chlorine for like $12 a 4-pk of 12.5%. Woodman’s nearby has good prices but their bleach was older - disappointing because last year their stock was fresh. Seems to be the same stuff this year still. Menards as you mentioned has it, and there are many pool stores who stock it - in West Allis, Allied Pool and Spa (just moved across Hwy 100 from where it was) was selling last year for $14-15 for a 4-pk which isn’t bad, but I haven’t checked them out this year to see their prices. They always stocked a lot of liquid chlorine though. Ace Hardware also stocks it, and it’s at WalMart again. Haven’t checked Lowe’s or Home Depot.

We are in an area with an abundance of chlorine. :)
