Drain pool or chem treat?

It’s nowhere near as hard as it looks. There’s written instructions in the kit and identifying numbers on the chemicals. Though, I think I’d get some rest and focus on your COVID for now. Hope you have a mild case.

o_Oo_Oo_O:rolleyes:Where do I even begin.
First off, DON'T PANIC. It's really not that bad. Here is me back in November doing the FC/CC test one-handed since my phone was in my other hand. Note it's only 43 seconds long too. So if it can be done one handed in 43 seconds clearly it can't be that hard?

I suppose I did cheat, I had the water sample pre-measured in the syringe I used at the time. But I can do it just as fast, actually faster now, with my SampleSizer. If you are not using a SampleSizer or a syringe it may take a whole minute to do the FC/CC test. 😁

Hope you are not feeling bad :( What timing!!!

Unpack the box. Open the magic stirrer, put batteries in.

Watch videos. Pull up the pH one and do that test first as it is fairly easy.

Go lay down and rest up for the next test.

Use the big laminated card. Only look at one test at a time. Each one test is stupid easy, but if you glance at the whole card, it looks like astrophysics.

Annnnnnnnnnd we’re off !!!!

First things first you want to add enough 20 mule borax to get the PH to 7.2. This may prove difficult. My own inherited pool after my move took 4 tries as my 6.8 was much much lower. But attempt to raise it per PoolMathand retest. Once the PH is good, get a CYA sock going targeting 20 for now to make the SLAM a little easier. It will take a day or so for the granules to dissolve but just SLAM for 20 per the FC/CYA Levels and when it gets there, it gets there.

Now, you will blow through your FC at first and the more frequently you test/add, the quicker the results. You should shoot for every 2 hours but if life gets in the way, do the best you can.

From here on out you’ll also want to brush twice daily. More if you have the time. Aglae grows a biofilm over itself to protect it and the brushing will help the chlorine kill what’s there on the walls. As you stir it up into the water, BOOM. Dead. But it will also eat up your precious FC so keep on the frequent testing/adding.

Glad to finally see you got your kit and you’re starting the process. Your numbers are way to out of range for me to give any advice but am hoping for the best. I know one thing, stick with it and eventually you’ll be dialed in and things will get a lot easier.

Also, how are you feeling?

what is a cya sock?

Not sure on the Chlorox stabilizer but if it says pure or 100% cyanuric acid it’s good. Home Depot / Lowe’s should have it too in the pool aisle outside by the plants and mulch.

Thank you. At any point could I use the 45 lbs of baking Soda that the pool store enticed me into buying? Can’t it be used to raise TA & PH?

cya comes in granular form. The granules don’t dissolve very quickly. So, you put them in a sock and hang it in the pool near a jet and in a few days it will be dissolved. Don’t let the sock touch anything (like your liner). Also, squeezing the sock every so often will help it dissolve quicker. Frankly, it’s kind of a pain, but you need it.
