Well the 70 degree weather yesterday help thaw the 4" thick ice in my pool yesterday. I was able to turn pump back on to see if motor was going to work, and it did, but water shot out of the return pipe from the filter. As you can see in the photo, im hoping this is the only damage to the pool during this historic winter event. I didn't get to run the motor long enough to see any leaks under the motor, but will check out once the pipe is fixed..

We stayed with my parents and they also had a ton of ice on the top of their pool, we tried breaking it up but eventually just said a prayer and went inside.
Our neighbors massive pool did finally freeze over and although it's almost 60 degrees out, it still looks like something out of the Alaskan Bay. The neighbor worked on trying to break it up for a couple of hours and finally gave up. Maybe it will thaw by April.

Ice is a good thing right now. It will keep the water cold as the air temps melt all the small ice plugs inside your plumbing. When you get a few really warm days the ice cube soup will remove any algae concerns and buy you more time.
