Fiberglass pool frozen.

Our power has been out for more than 24 hours. It is 0 degrees in Fort Worth Tx. I drained the pump and filter, and feel like that is pretty safe. I have fiberglass pool and have been breaking the ice around the edges aver two hours because I am worried about it breaking the pool.

Is that an issue? Do I need to continue breaking the ice around the edges?

Everything I have read says fiberglass pools will be okay with freezing water, I’m in the same boat. Similar to an ice tray in the freezer, the ice expands and pushes upward ... not outward against the pool walls. I haven’t broken any ice at all in my pool. The skimmer is the main place you need to worry about ... make sure something is in there to absorb pressure from ice forming. Gizmo, plastic bottle, pool noodle pieces, etc. I put some rv antifreeze in my skimmer & left a half empty bottle of it floating in there. Good luck

I don't think so, because the ground around it will be frozen also. I'm not to worried about mine and its been f%$# cold here the last 2 weeks with 20" of snow.

I know right - I was outside brushing my pool with my shirt off wondering how it was -4 degrees less than a week ago.

I'm glad you guys in TX are thawing out, hope your pools do to with no problems.

On a side note; I have read that the TX governor wants to mandate the utilities update their systems. Then he also said the state would fund it. WTF!

I'm in Montreal, Canada and I've had a fiberglass pool for the last 10 years and winters here last from December until April and temperatures go down to -30C and the water in the pool is frozen solid for months. It gets winter prepped by the manufacturer every year and they usually empty it half way down but not this year, they kept it full. They flush the pipes and pour anti-freeze down the ones they can't and I've NEVER had ANY damage. I wouldn't worry too much.
