Renovation question relating to pool beam and shallow depth

Hello, I am in the process of obtaining quotes for my pool renovation. We currently have Kool Deck cantilever, that will need to be removed. We are installing travertine / marble pavers and coping. One PB states that he need to "saw cut pool deck 12" for a relief cut. Rebar, pin and epoxy the perimeter deck to the pool beam." Another PB, states that he only needs to cut it back 3" or so...and will also "drill and pin pool deck to pool shell with rebar and epoxy."

Any ideas why one would say 12" and another 3"? What questions should I ask??

Also...another question.....has anyone had their pool made shallower? My shallow end is currently at 53 inches. Pretty deep for a shallow end considering I'm only 62 inches!! Getting a quote now on cost to add 5 - 6 inches to shallow end. But ugh...I think it's going to be around $6k for that. Crazy. Sure wish I was still growing!! LOL

Appreciate any advice.

While you're waiting on some replies, you could go to the top of this page and search pool renovations. There was an interesting one recently that I read about. . . .But so many posts on this forum it's easy to lose track of them. Anyway, you might get some good ideas from those posters and you can send a message or reply to their threads.

Anything can be done, for the right amount of money.... It just depends on how much for each company to do it correctly... the correctly part is usually more money.... get as many quotes as you can and post them up here so people can look at them and see if they know what they are doing or just floating an idea.. :)

Changing depth requires a plsater job that's the biggest issue. You can almost just pour concrete into the pool with a little prep amd take 6" out of it.
As for the relief cut theres many ways to skin the cat. It depends in how the deck is setup now and what the plan is on using the existing deck or not for base

Thanks for responding. So really not to big of a problem to add 6" of concrete....other than cost (which is a factor), but will find out. We are removing the Kool Deck cantilever and laying down marble coping and pavers all over the deck. Appreciate any further input. Thanks!!

Ok yes I will. Hate that we have to deal with this but better to realize it now instead of later!

So you are removing the concrete deck which is also your cantilever coping and installing pavers. I see your in FL. Are you laying on base material or on a new slab
Hi Jimmy! They are cutting the cantilever and decking only about 3-4 inches (or 12”) if we go with other quote. But that is all that will be removed as far as decking. They will lay the marble pavers over the kool deck. Here’s a pic so you can see what the pool looks like.
