Closing with mesh cover before water temperature is below 60 degrees

Our pool closing is scheduled for next Friday. Water temperature is 68 degrees now so I doubt that It will be below 60 in 7 days when we close. Our pool is surrounded by trees that are dropping leaves into the pool constantly right now, so I really don’t want to postpone the closing because of the water temperature. Before we close, I have a few questions.
1. If we go ahead with the pool closing next Thursday, I assume we need to use Polyquat because of the higher water temperature. According to the directions on here, we need to shock the pool and then add the polyquat when FC drops by half. If we get the pool up to shock level now, FC won’t be down to half (10) when we close in 7 days since we are only losing 1 ppm of chlorine a day. If there is no CC and the water is clear, is it really necessary to shock beforehand? Or should we just increase the chlorine to 17 instead of 20, so FC will be at half of shock level (10) in 7 days?
2. Since our pool is surrounded by trees, is there anything that we could put around the perimeter of the mesh cover to prevent leaves from blowing under the cover? This year, we opened up to a pool full of leaves because so many leaves had blown under the cover and the leaves permanently stained our pool. Since we are closing with a higher water temperature this year, I‘d like to prevent this from happening again, if possible. I thought about putting water bags along the edge of the cover but I read on here that they don’t work that well and would be expensive to buy.
3. How low can we safely lower the water level at closing since we have a fiberglass pool with a mesh cover that lets in water? Last year, we lowered it 3 inches below the bottom of the skimmer but we had to drain water out every 3-4 weeks to keep it below the tile all winter. This was a major pain. We would like to lower it more this year if it would be safe so we wouldn’t have to drain water out as often.

"67", for the Poly/FC question, you could just do one or the other really. You can go to SLAM level and omit the Poly in hopes that the water temps continue to fall in the next week or two; or increase the FC about halfway to SLAM level and add the Poly just before shutting it all down. Kind of splitting hairs on that one. For the mesh cover gap, all I can think of is placing something along the perimeter of the cover to press-down the gap. Maybe lay some 2x4s with a weight on it to press it down? I don't know, just a thought. Might not be the most visual pleasing, but keeping leaves out is your priority. As for lowering the water level, the amount of saturation in your area (underground water table) has a major influence on how low you can safely go. But you should be able to lower it about 12 inches from the normal waterline with no problem.

Thanks for the advice! Since the weather forecast is predicting unseasonably warm weather and rain the next few weeks, I think I will go ahead and close with the Polyquat. I‘m not going to be able to shock it beforehand though because I’m afraid the FC won’t go down enough in four days to use the polyquat. If there happens to be a tiny bit of algae growing at closing, would the polyquat kill it? Right now, cc is .5 and the water is clear but I’m afraid that the leaves in the pool could cause problems before closing.

I'm using the below water bags to prevent leaves from coming under my cover. I usually open to a pool full of leaves but never any algae or bad water. All my wind blows from West to East, right under my cover on the shallow end. My plan is to just put these on that end. We'll see! I scheduled my opening for 10/28 and my water right now is hovering in the low 60s. It hit 60 one day but the sun brought it back up to 65 the next day. Oh well we'll see I am not too concerned.
