Hello! We are looking for a smooth finish in our new pool. Our PB here in Austin is quoting us over 5k for Pebble Fina and 8-9k for Hydrazzo. I was curious about opinions on these two finishes? Also is this pricing way out of line? Though I'm not sure if we have much choice unless we want more of an aggregate feel. I'm not a fan of Pebble Sheen as it turns out. Thanks!
Pebble Fina vs. Hydrazzo?

We’re currently building and in the 4-5 quotes we got in the DFW area those prices are in line. We ended up going with a similar product to Hydrazzo, called Durazzo and it was a $4500 up charge. I had a bid for Primera Stone and it was a $5700 up charge. Both up charges over white plaster. The one builder that listed prices without a base charge came in at 8-9k for Pebble Sheen and $12k for a polished plaster (don’t remember which one but similar to Primera Stone)
I’d expect Hydrazzo to be a little more then Durazzo, but less then like a Primera Stone.
There’s several posts on this forum about other polished finishes - Hydrazzo, Durazzo, Primera Stone. Search those and you’ll get good advice. Polished surfaces are less susceptible to mottling if you do a lighter color, most complaints from discoloration come from darker colors and pool water management.
I think Primera Edge was my favorite, but they’re all good and matters more on the skill of your installer

I had Hydrazoo finish for 17 years and redid it with Hydrazoo. The finish could have gone a few more years except a rebar rust spot developed. I am happy with the smoothness and longevity of Hydrazoo.
@ajw22 did you consider repolishing the finish? I know that’s one of the perks to the polished finishes is the ability to repolish instead of replastering, but I don’t think I’ve actually seen anyone on here that ACTUALLY got theirs repolished

Primera stone with wet edge is pretty awesome & illove it in my spa, they claim it will last a lifetime with polishing. With that said, I bet most people don't want the same colored finishes for 50 years so I'm sure most people never get it polished. Pebble fina does not have very good reviews from the research I did and bad mottling in darker colors. Pebble fina costs less than pebble sheen or pebbletec, it shouldn't be much more than plaster since it's basically plaster with some pebble dust sprinkled in.

The rusting rebar area needed to be cutout and the hole filled. The spa surface was getting rough. After 17 tears I figured a replaster was the way to go.

How often do you need to polish your Hydrazzo? My pool builder said every 2-3 years I need to drain the pool and polish it. Is this true?

No. Never polish it after installation. Sounds like a nice hustle for the PB.

That's what I thought! My guess is he is trying to scare me away and make me switch to Pebble Tec or Stone Scapes because he makes more profit.
