Replacing Jandy PlusHP 2.0 pump

Motor zonked out on me (not the capacitor this time!) & the pump is 6 seasons old so I want to just replace the whole thing with something variable speed (or 2 speed I guess...)

My signature should have most the pertinent details and I have 2" on suction and return so even though the pool is pretty small, I can handle a large pump.

I assume based on plumbing I shouldn't go below 1.5 HP and 2HP always seemed like overkill. Am I best to stick in the 1.65 to 1.85 range or is that false economy and I should just get a big one? I'm going to have to re-plumb it and there's no automation to consider so any brand is on the table. I'm more of a DIY guy so I prefer to just handle it myself.

I tried to order the Raypak PS165VSP from A1 pool parts but that went sideways so I just canceled it. Pool has been down for a week so want to get something in place this weekend if possible. Open to suggestions on make/model as well as a reliable source.

Leaning towards the 1.5HP Pentair SuperFlo VS (342001) as the most cost effective option but it shows that it's 1.5 inch with some adapters to 2" plumbing. Also, it's shorter than my original pump so I'd need to raise it about 2" to match the inlet from the pool plumbing.

Am I barking up the right tree or should I try to find something that has native 2" connections and more closely matches the dimensions of the original pump?

I think any 1.5 HP to 2 HP pump will do. You will not see any operational difference if you get a pump with 1.5" versus 2".

Heh, good catch! Yes, I have a Raypak 400K BTU. I'll add it to the signature!

Sounds like I can save a little cash and go with a smaller pump. Still need to do some homework on how the 1.5" - 2" conversion fittings work on this Pentair. I see text references to them but I haven't seen a pic yet.

Replying to myself now but just in case anyone else is following, it looks like the supplied unions accept a 1.5" pipe on the "inside" and a 2" pipe fits over the "outside". Pump arrives in a couple of days so I'll confirm when I get it all installed...

All went well with the install. Re-plumbing was a slight pain but not too bad. The Pentair seems to be MUCH higher quality than the Jandy I replaced so I'm hoping to get more than 6 seasons out of this one.

Now to address the copper staining!
