Today was our last swim for the season. It got up to almost 80 degrees today and I heated the water to 85. Daughter and grandkids came over. I got the smoker out and did a pork butt for some pulled pork. Everyone swam into the evening (night swimming) with the pool lights on. It was a good day and a good send off for the season.

This was our first year with the pool. The PB got us in just before the 4th of July and we had a lot of hot dry weather this summer. It was a great first season. Hoping for many more.

Closing the pool this coming Tuesday so job now is to get the water ready and get things put away. Learned a lot this year and have more to learn. Thankful I found this site and appreciate the help I got along the way.

Now to get some golf in before the leaves start falling and the temps drop too much. They canceled our golf league this year so I didn’t get in as much golf as I would have liked. Fall‘s a great time of year in Michigan but I’ll miss the pool. It was a great gathering point for the family.

Last swim is probably this week. But pool/spa stays open until October 19th to use the spa.

Played golf twice a week most week this season for our main outdoor exercise. My old body can't take more then golf twice a week.

I live in Ohio and last year we were swimming the last week of September in 80 degree weather. I remember because I close my pool the first week of October and I couldn’t get my water temp to 60. I think your climate is about the same as ours. Be careful about closing too early. Ideally you would like the water temperature to be 60 or below.

I was hoping to stay open until mid to late October, since it stayed so warm last year, but alas, Sally is ushering in a week of temps in the low 70s, with lows in the low 50s. Water temp is already 72. Looks like I'll be closing in the next couple of weeks.

It's sad when the season is over.

Fun idea for anyone with a deep end. We take our last swim after I drain in preparation for the winter. When jumping in it has the same effect of doing so from a higher ledge/ diving board. It’s a weird feeling being so used to the water being at a certain level when you get the extra hang time. But again, only do this if you have plenty of depth to spare

I did some floating yesterday- instant read thermometer said water temp 79. Air temp was 82 & sunny. When i get chilly i just jump in the hot tub. On the plus side my 15k gal intex swg is keeping my 27k gal pool @ 12 ppm. Time to turn it down a notch 😬
Gonna be some cool nights coming but still some 80 + degree days after the cold snap.
its looking like I won’t close here until Halloween or a little later

80 degrees this week here in IL, but likely will be the last of the warm days.

Same here in Michigan, but pool is already scheduled to be closed. Next year I’ll probably wait until end of September. This year, being the first year of the pool, I was just ready to clear my head of pool matters and do some golfing. Next year, that shouldn’t be the case.

I generally close when the leaves start falling. One year I left it open until Veteran's Day (November 11) but it was a lot of work to get all the leaves out of the pool. Yesterday, the water was still 90F. My heat pump is set at 87F.

Pool temp dropped below 79F (26C) Sunday night. And with Tropical Storm "Beta", everything is cooling off. I expect to be lower 70's (22C) by the end of the week. Time for the pool cover...

We are still in the middle of it. It will pass-over the house around 1-2AM this morning.

It is pretty mild so far, only about 6-8 inches of rain. I expect we will be 10-12 inches by the time we are done.

I’m finally moving Thursday so instead of closing I will go have the ‘It’s not you, it’s me’ talk to say goodbye.

Good luck with that. Hope you have some Borax handy, in case your pool goes sour after that talk...

And good luck with the move!
