If I create a static ip address for the IC and then use router port forwarding, in theory, couldn’t I always connect to the IC then?

This is getting above my competency level but I think it takes a little more than that. One of our members (@guinness) created gateway software that allows communication over the internet via your home LAN with the IC. Also you need an app to provide the interface. Here's a link to the gateway software on Github. @rmontgomery wrote the phone app.

Pentair's software development cycle has been bad since I've been using their products. Non-existent, really, for what I own. They don't seem to have the resources, and are somewhat thin on know-how, from the looks of it. I'm guessing ScreenLogic development is dead. It won't run on my newest computer, and I expect it never will. When my iPhone stops supporting the app, that'll be it for that, too.
@Candurin, I'd say study what the IC can do for you now, what it can run on, and be prepared to accept that is all it will ever be/do. I wouldn't base a decision on its potential or what it could or should someday do. If it gets there, great, then that'll be a bonus. I'm not saying it will never get better, I'm just saying don't make plans base on that.
