New ABGP Owner - Base covering advice

I just had my ABGP installed and the base is still exposed waiting for the electrician.
The installer used a base of sand.

I have been researching the best method for covering the base, and was looking for advice.
What material do you suggest to put around the base of the pool to help with longevity and health of the pool?

You should put down at least a tarp, preferably with a Gorilla pad or Rhino Pad on top of the tarp. The pass will discourage weeds and grass from growing up through the liner. Be sure to sprinkle some pool diatomaceous earth on top of the sand to keep ants at bay, too. Wear gloves and a face mask to sprinkle the DE -- it's classified as a carcinogen.

Is there any need to try to avoid water from getting near the base where the pool meets the ground.
