What is your daily dosage?

Pool is fairly small, so I just pour a few glugs in and test a while later. Not very scientific, but as long the FC is within a range, I'm happy.

Depends on several variables. On a typical hot, sunny day with no swimming I go through about two cups of 10% bleach just from the sun’s UV rays. If I have people over to swim or if we get some heavy rain with debris in the pool, obviously I add much more than that.
On average with all things considered, I would say I put about 4 cups (sometimes more) of 10% LC a day for my 7000 gallon pool with a CYA of 30. I like to keep my FC higher than necessary just as a security measure to ensure I don’t get an algae bloom, lol. I added more stabilizer last night to get my CYA to 40 so hopefully I won’t have to go through so much liquid chlorine! I use the PoolMath app to help me dose my chlorine amount.

I only did it for a few days recently, but i was 1.5 quarts per PPM for my 35k gallons. My seasonal average would have been close to a gallon per day.
Evidentally we need to add another variable into the SWG debate which is pool size because at some point (12k gallons?) the SWG breaks even. Anything larger than that size, becomes proportionately cheaper to go SWG.

I agree. Just doing public math (always dangerous), a $600 SWG equals about 150 gallons of Bleach @ $4.00/gal. I have seen bleach less, but this is a close swag. So how long does it take to go through 150 gallons?
For me it would take about 6 years to go through 150 gallons. I think most get a SWCG for the convenience of not having to go to the store to get chlorine and lug bottles back and forth. There is also the cost of the salt for the pool though so I think it probably becomes a wash as far as cost goes.

I forgot about the convenience factor. As an interesting note, the university I worked for in college would use a planning factor of 5 years return on investment for any major purchase or upgrade. I have tended to use that in my personal decisions on improvements or upgrades (refinance, new windows, higher efficiency heat pump, etc.). Of course the pool was a complete splurge!!
According to pool math, At a CYA of 30, your 20k gallons need a little over 1/2 gallon per day for 3ppm. (77 oz). When it’s hot you would need more and cooler/less, but if we used 1/2 gallon as the average daily dose at a cost of $2 a day, You would hit the $600 SWG cost in 300 days. That’s 2 years in the short northern season and 1.25 years or less in TX.
Don't care what that says. I bought 12 gallons of chlorine in early May and still have 8 Gallons left. I don't come anywhere near 1/2 gallon per day. Added 1/2 gallon 2 days ago and FCL is still ~ 6 as of this am (tested it with both the Lamotte and TF100 drop test they were near enough to each other). I add >maybe< a gallon per week during the winter months but I also keep the FC lower then too.
5 years is generous. When I worked for a large foundry they pushed for 18 to 24 months roi for cost reduction projects.
Factor in a "cost" for weekly trips to buy and transport liquid chlorine and daily effort to dose the pool. vs set it and (mostly) forget it SWG.
I use about 3-3.5 gallons a week. So, I would use 150 gallons in about a year and a half of swim season. I would probably go with a SWCG, but my pool manufacturer states that its use would void the warranty on the pool.

I usually dose about 1 1/2 to 2 cups chlorine daily in my 4024 gallon pool. That's 6.5% -- when I have 10% it's less. I used to maintain at 6 ppm FC but since my mustard algae episode I'm going to max out to 8 ppm. I generally lose 2 ppm FC daily, on bright sunny days. CYA is 50.

Using 10% chlorine and using about 1/2 gallon per day. Our pool gets a LOT of sun...pretty much direct sun from 9:30am until a little past 6:00pm. When temps get below 80, I use about a gallon every 4-5 days and in the winter a gallon a week (we don't winterize).
That’s amazing! That’s what I would do on a cloudy day. Not now.
Lately I've been averaging about a half gallon per day. A SWG sounds nice, but the cost of one for a pool my size coupled with the fairly short season in NJ would mean it would take like 7 years to break even.

Depending on how sunny it is, I average 3-5 quarts of 10% a day during late June through mid August. My pool gets a LOT of sun. My CYA is 50, and I try to never let FC go below 5ppm.
Another variable would be a solar cover. When we keep our pool covered all day minimal fc loss. Keep it uncovered all day and the full sun eats up my fc like Pac-Man.
Whoops forgot this part...we do have a solar cover FYI.
