Good morning,
Last week we changed the sand in our Doughboy sand filter. We noticed a leak coming from the o-ring, so this morning I finally opened it up, reseated the ring, and put it back together, turned the pump back on, leak fixed. My victory was only momentary.
Now there is a fair sized stream of water coming from the backwash hose while on filter setting. Not a leak from where the hose meets the filter, but a steam of water right out of the hose from the filter.
What happened and how do I fix, please?
Thank you!

Your pool appears to be new though right? Have you been turning off the pump before changing settings? You may need to contact your installer since I'm assuming it's still under warranty.
We're new, the pool is not. :) We have been unplugging the pump when changing settings. The multiport valve does seem worn.

Back from store with gasket. Looking online for replacement instructions with no luck. I see other filters require glue where others just lube. Does anyone have a Doughboy Silica 2 sand filter and know how to replace it? Attached is the owner's manual so you can see the specific parts. Of course, there is no mention of how to replace parts.

For kicks, before changing the part I turned off the pump and moved the lever from each setting to another. Turned on the pump and sure enough it stopped (at least for now?) the water from leaking out of the backwash hose. I still have the part and will save it for when it really does need replacing.
If anyone has ever changed this part on this specific sand filter, I'd still be interested in hearing how it's done.
Thank you.

I couldn't find one specific to a Doughboy Silica 2 but maybe one of these: youtube pool spider gasket at DuckDuckGo

.
Thanks for looking into it. The silica 2 seems to be an odd duck in that it's not much like any other filter I've seen on any video. I've emailed Doughboy to see if they have any instructions to provide. If they do, I'll post them for anyone else who might have the same filter.

Hi everyone,
Hope your weekend's are off to a good start.
The leak from my sand filter was good to go for a while just by moving the lever from setting to setting and back to the filter position. Today, I noticed it is leaking again so I finally replaced the spider gasket. Water is still leaking from the backwash hose. Any idea what else could be causing this? Until I solve the pump needs to stay off and, of course, my family is having a pool party this weekend for the holiday.

This doesn't solve your problem but if it's a matter of water loss you can always have the discharge hose go back into the pool so you can run the pump and the family can enjoy the pool until you find a solution.

There's no danger to the filter or pump if I do that?? Grateful for the solution. Thank you!!

You're welcome. No danger to your pump or filter. It's just that the water coming out of the hose is leaking past the filter same as if you had the valve in a "waste" or "recirculate" position.
Is it leaking any less since doing the spider ? When you did the spider did you inspect for anything odd, chipped, cracked ... ?
When rotating the lever do you always go in the same direction (recommended) ? Always clockwise or counter clockwise ?

The one thing I wasn't sure about was whether to use a sealant so I didn't.

The previous gasket did seem worn - some cracks and pealing. The sand filter itself seems to be in good shape.

The new gasket sat securely in the grooves with no issue, and I dried the area as much as possible before placing it.

Good question about the direction of the lever. I think I have gone clockwise, but I'm not certain. Will be more conscious of that now.
