CH 650, should I consider a partial drain?

I am able to manage CSI at this point but wanted your opinions about whether I should be considering a partial drain. TIA

650 is workable (I am just north of 800 now) - maybe even until a full drain come early spring. Keep your water balanced and keep you CSI in the 0.00 to -0.30 range to reduce the chance of scale buildup.

Remember, any water you drain will be replaced by fill water with a CH in the ~225 ppm range so a large replacement will be required to make any appreciable change.

200-300 is our "normal" tap water hardness - it varies a bit throughout the year.

With our evaporation rates in the "Valley of the Sun", chances are your entire pool volume evaporates every year (maybe more frequently). If your fill water is 300, in a year or less it will be 600. You can usually manage it up to about 1000 ppm CH.

Yes, a total drain and fill. My plan this fall is to plumb my autofill into my water softener so I can add make up water that has low/no CH. Fill from empty from the hard water tap, use soft water to replace water lost to evaporation.

Yeah, you should be agle to easily manage thru summer and maybe even knto early spring. Just continue to test and keep your CSI in the 0.00 to -0.30 range. As the CH continues to climb, you will need to lower pH to keep CSI in that range. But keep pH in the 7's.

Always best to drain/refill when the weather is cooler. As you know, we are into our 105+ temps. And not going to cool down much until some time in October.
