No suction in skimmer when filtering

Thank you!
when the pool repair guy was here he did a thorough backwash(about 15 minutes) I have done 3 since then 4 minutes backwash 1 min rinse.(per the repair guy) It’s been about 10 days so about every other dayThe basket in the skimmer has not been collecting much so I think the backwash is good. But again, my faith in him is on shaky ground. I am getting the heater replaced in a few weeks it has always “tripped “ if I turn it on too high. Meaning I have to turn it up gradually as the water heats. Heater is not currently being used, I heat with the solar blanket and use the heater in the spring.
Get yourself a new pool guy if he thinks rinse needs a full minute.

Oh my goodness!
that was a very tough job. It’s cold here in Oregon and I discovered that my floor drain doesn’t work, so I have a small pump at the drain. I had great success cleaning the sludge out of the sand filter. It took a long time (most of today,) I would get so far and have to stop so the floor drain could get caught up . But I did it with a little help of my son-in-law. I’m sure I could’ve cleaned it a couple more hours or maybe even more into tomorrow. but it just seemed never ending. The sand went from being very thick and not wanting to move to very free and easy to move around. It went from smelling like a foul fishbowl too nice and clean. We put it all back together and I turned it on, suction Was amazing at the skimmer! Mission accomplished! I back washed it until the bubble was clear. Everything is working perfectly thanks to you all. I have enclosed a picture of the PSI. I cannot thank you enough! Now to get it all cleaned up!

Nice work!
Well I just noticed the PSI is back up to 28
so maybe I spoke too soon? Suction in the skimmer is still good. I’m going to mess with it some more.
Replacing the heater soon so that may help. I have a COTES electric heater that is at least 20 years old, it trips if I turn it up too fast, takes about a week or so to get it where I want the heat dial. Also getting the main drain cleaned, I have never had that done in the 8 years I have owned the place. But they want the pool water at 78 degrees minimum to clean the drain so that will have to wait until the pool can be heated properly. Well? If nothing this pool is teaching me patience ?

You need to backwash thoroughly again. Note your psi before you start and then rinse until the sight glass is clear (it CAN often take more than a minute)

Now, go back to the filter and run the pump. Note the re-start psi.

So,

1. Note current psi
2. Backwash thoroughly
3. Rinse until sight glass is clear
4. Note psi when you restart
5. Post on this thread the "before backwash" psi AND the "after backwash" psi.

A. Your water is still clear, correct?
B. Have you brushed or vacuumed since you posted the pick of the 18 psi on your gauge?

You stirred up a lot of gunk when you Deep Cleaned and it may simply be resettling......your psi reports will tell us

Or, you may have invisible algae in your pool and you will have to SLAM. I doubt that but let's see what your psi results tell us first
