Loss of salt

I am a new owner and also just converted to a SWCG. I added salt and waited prior to turning on the SWCG. I had my salt test showing I was at 3400 on March 13 and added another 40lbs of salt on March 18. I just got around to checking my salt again today since my RJ45+ is showing an average of only 2500. Today’s test showed 3200? We have had some rain over the last two days and looking at my wife’s rain gauge we got just under 3 inches.
will I loose salt this much from some rain or could this just be everything settling in?

I sometimes get a salt test result that I suspect is a couple hundred PPM off. I run the test again and it often comes back at what I thought it should be. Did you try testing twice by any chance?
As for the low SWCG readout, when my new cell was reading that far off from actual, it turned out to be a defective cell, replaced under warranty.

Well I ran it twice but the first time it was 3000 although I think I messed up my count. I will run it again when I get home. I can see the cell off gassing however now it is saying the water temp is to cold (55) so hoping the warmer weather over the next few days will help.

Ok just tested it again and it was 3600 which is where I expected it to be originally. I normally test in the evening could the time of day effect it? Both times I tested was about a hour after my pump started running. Maybe this morning the rain water was still on top?

That's what I thought when I first read your post. Three inches is a good amount of rain and would require some good pump time before fully mixing.

It may also be testing methods. Last weekend, I added salt and tested the following day. Test results were not what I expected. I tested again, taking my time to keep the bottle vertical and to allow the drops to fall off the tip. I got two more drops in compared to the first time around. When each drop is worth 200 ppm, two drops is significant.

Maybe it’s a SC thing. Haha now to get the water to warm up enough to get my new RJ45 figured out.

i know its not nice when the water is cold
but you need to sample elbow deep in the water
