Questions about stabilizer

I was instructed to add some stabilizer to my pool this week from the water check at the pool store. The instructions say to add to the pool skimmer, is this so the stabilizer gets into the filter?

I also spilled some into the bottom of the pool. I am not the most graceful person pouring things out of a bucket and getting 100% of it into a hole half the size of the bucket. I also have a dog that is basically like Velcro to me so that adds to the challenge.

Does the stabilizer dissolve fairly quickly or will it get sucked up by the vacuum?

Welcome to the forum!
Sadly, that is not a great way to add stabilizer. Neither is following a pool store recommendation based on iffy test results, but I digress!
See Recommended Pool Chemicals - Trouble Free Pool.
For Stabilizer -- "Solid/granular cyanuric acid (CYA) should be placed in a sock and the sock put in the skimmer basket or suspended in front of a pool return. After adding CYA you should leave the pump running for 24 hours and not backwash/clean the filter for a week. Squeezing the sock periodically will help it to dissolve faster. Test and dose chemicals in your pool assuming the amount of CYA added is in the pool according to Poolmath. CYA can be tested the day after it is fully dissolved from the sock."

If any CYA granules are on your pool surface, I suggest you get them dissolved or vacuumed up quickly. They will stain plaster or vinyl surfaces.

I suggest you read ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry.

I was just going by what the instructions on the package tell me to do.
I understand. TFP has just found better ways to do some things. Should be of little issue as long as the material in the pool did not stain it.
